Unhappy Bummed!

I'm losing Hannah. She's a stunning two week old pied Alpine. She was fine, then developed a lesion in her mouth, and wouldn't eat. At the advice of my vet, I started tube feeding her, just to make sure she didn't starve to death. She was doing well, even gained a pound. Then yesterday, she went down hard. Labored breathing and the mouth rash has spread. I dropped her off at the vet this morning. They're putting her on an IV, but it doesn't look good. Of course, she was my favorite.

Just needed to get that out. Thanks all.

Ruth

I'm sorry to hear that. I hope your vet can figure out what's happening.

Does she have an infection?

Just called the vet for an update. She's getting fluids and she's still breathing. I guess that's a good thing.

But I called again a bit ago. She's still hanging in there and even shifting around a bit.

I wouldn't have given her another five minutes when I dropped her off. I'm cautiously optomistic now.

could lysine help her?

It helps with cold sores.

odd.

Hope she pulls through!

Did she get something from mom's teats? Or into a chemical?

Good luck!

Well, she's been bottle fed from the start and kept in the house because of the cold, but in a large dog kennel...only loose in the house when I'm there to supervise. She couldn't have gotten into anything. Her sister is doing great and she's in the same kennel....or was anyway.

checked again...

no real change, still weak and floppy. I asked them if they thought it could be a caustic chemical problem, but I really doubt it myself. Can't hurt to check though. I'm figuring if she's still alive, that's a plus. I thought she was dead for sure this morning.

Still no change, but she's still hanging in there. She's getting an IV with dextrose. She got a bit feisty when they inserted the IV, so that was a good sign. She peed in her cage and tried to get out of it so that's a good sign too. She's still weak and floppy though. I'm supposed to get a call from the vet in a couple of hours. Fingers crossed/prayers said.
