I butchered a Bottle-baby PICS
I butchered a 6 week old LaMancha bottle-baby wether that weighed 25 lbs and got 11 lbs of meat. It was a much easier job than a big wether and I had it done in a little over an hour. Too many wethers and bucklings each spring eat up my milk, time, enery and space. They are wonderful on the smoker pit and now I have more milk for my keeper doelings.
With it's offal removed, alot of a goats live weight is just their guts:
Looking good to me! Shiner beer for scale

Thank you for the pics and weights! I've been considering doing in a couple of mine for a while now, and this just might motivate (and educate) me enough to get it done!

Was that 11lbs the dressed weight, or the boned out meat weight?
Bet it's gonna be some tender cabrito...

I assume that would be of a vegetarian nature?
I have a question: is that a pair of hands holding the goat's hind legs up? Or is it just my poor old eyes? Surely people tie the meat up or something? Sorry, I have no idea!
BTW, those are very pretty roosters. What kind are they?

How do you do the actual deed? I tie mine up in the tree, then bonk them on the head with a sledgehammer, then cut the throat and bleed out. I put a plastic-lined garbage can underneath, to catch the drippings and bits.

We shot ours through the back of the head, with the gun pointing toward the back of the mouth. I assume this takes out the brain stem, which shuts down breathing and heartbeat, besides taking out the spinal cord. Our wether just dropped, and then we hung him, cut the throat and bled him.

One pan of it's favorite food then while relaxed place a .22 caliber round to back of the head. The animal drops quicker than you can blink your eye, then immediately slit throat just below the head.....Just had goat yesterday @ easter dinner...yummy

Dixy, I think the ends of the legs are unskinned. Does kind of look like hands though!
Must've been tough to kill a critter that you've bottle raised.

I thought that to! And it looks much bigger when it's hanging then when it is laying in the pot! My 10 week old bottle babies are still drinking all my milk but I hate to eat them and not get 250.00 for them!

BOY, I am glad that I can not do that. I would NEVER eat one of my goats, muchless a bottle baby. I guess you have to be a very special person or a heartless one to do it. Please don't get me wrong, I know poeple raise them for that and I do understand. I tell my husband that he is heartless when he shoots a goose or a duck, muchless a baby that I raised. NO WAY! I can not raise a steer to be butchared if I ever look in their eyes. I look at it as they trust you as their caretaker. I know, most people think that is really dumb, but hey that is me.

It looks like hands but i can see the rod through the back so its just the hairy legs that look like hands.
I am a little amazed at how big it is at 6 weeks old. I don't think I could do that to a bottle baby just because (as a woman) I would definately get attached but I am sure you had a very tender Easter Dinner
Thanks for the pictures. It is amazing to me how most animals look so much alike with their fur and extremities off.

How tender did the meat end up?
We had to butcher a little pig last year around 50 lbs (he was a runt) and the meat was extremely tender. How does the meat compare to a full grown goats?

That's the dressed weight. It was just a little dairy wether to BBQ whole. I like to butcher my Boer wethers, they are thick and meaty, but dairy goats taste good too.
