Introducing My New LaMancha 'Savvy'
I should have gotten pictures yesterday but it was too danged cold--for me, not the camera. So I finally got out there to sit with the girls and get some pictures of my new doe from Lyceum (thanks sweetie, we love her already).
Here she is--purebred LaMancha Blue Glow Farm Savanna

Savvy and her partner in crime, Polly looking innocent as they come out of the barn
Polly helping me fill water buckets
Going back in to see what more havoc they can create
The inside of my barn and my 'out of retirement' milkstand
It sure is nice to be milking again. I bought the Udderlyez milker thing because my hands are what made me leave dairy goats years ago, and I still can't quite afford one of the real milkers--it took a few times to really make it work for me, most of the first few milkings ended up being by hand, but this morning I actually got it all working well for me and I'm quite pleased with it for now. I still need to get a real milking machine.... if I could just stop buying goats I might be able to afford one. LOL

Neat barn and neat goat! You'll pardon me if I never can get used to their not having ear flaps, though.

Thanks Honeybee.
Jim--I SWORE up and down in the past that I'd NEVER have a Lamancha no matter how sweet, or how well they milked. I guess I should have learned my lesson that saying 'never' means almost certainly will. LOL I call her my 'earless wonder' and she thinks it is a term of endearment. LOL (it is--now). She's absolutely sweet and while I do not plan on a herd of them, I already love her enough that she'll never be replaced.

I'll be picking up Savannah's daughter Sierra later on this month. Does that mean we're goat-in-laws?
Beautiful barn BTW, it makes mine look like a storage shed. :baby04:

Wonderful! I would love to see how you feel about a herd of LaManchas a year from now. When i first saw them about 15 years ago, i thought they were, well, unattractive. Obviously, I have changed my mind as that is what I raise now. I have had them now for 3 years and swear by them. In fact, I have 12 right now counting my doelings. I also have some MiniManchas. Earless wonders are the best are the best!
And I love your barn!

Sherri--welcome to the family. I saw Savvy's daughters when I was there to pick her up and what cuties they are! And oh so friendly too. LOL I'm looking forward to her babies next spring.
Thanks for all the comments, and the barn comments to. I love my barn. For years I just had a 24x24 building (that I still use, but not as heavily as it was once packed) and every morning cleaning it out I'd bang my knuckles on one door or another. What a great relief to have big doors and big aisles.
Hazy--at the moment only two of those stalls are occupied by goats (polly and savvy) all the kids I have are in outdoor runs with run-in's. The rest of the barn is occupied by horses... that's a balance slowly shifting though. hahhaa

Tami,
I LOVE your barn. So does mom. LOL Would love to have horse stalls like that for kidding pens. That would be sooooo nice. I guess we will get to see your barn soon, when we come pick up Shocker. Savvy and Polly look like two peas in a pod. How are they getting along now?

Thanks Carissa--yeah, I can't wait to have you come and see the girls, pick up your baby and bring my new 'baby' lol. Polly and Savvy are just doing great. I'm just tickled with them. The only thing they ever 'fight' over is one particular hay pile... and then it's more like a dance. They put their heads together (not butt, just put them together and lean in) and dance circles around this one particular pile I always put out in front of the doors there. Now mind you, that is NOT the only hay around. I don't know what it is about THAT particular place. It's funny as all get out though.
I have noticed my sweet little Polly is so jealous though when I go out and sit with them. She's kind of used to being the center of attention for me when I'm out there, and now Savvy is there wanting to be petted too, so if I'm petting Savvy and Polly thinks 'enough is enough' she'll get up on the picnic table next to me (savvy just can't get her big butt up there) and Polly will take her foot and gently place it on my arm like 'pet ME now'. haha
