alfalfa pellets?

hello,

we got some alfalfa pellets for the goats so we can wean them. They're eating normal alfalfa and grain but they still love the milk. but me and my mom don't know what to do... she was wondering if we should soak the pellets in water before we give it to them? they're about 12-14 weeks old

thanks,
maddie

I have never heard of anyone soaking alfalfa pellets...are these the pellets or the "cubes"? Pellets are small like rabbit food and cubes are big like for horses to eat. My goats gooble down pellets like candy. Just put the pellets out there, if at first the goats think they are strange, they should get over it and start eating them.

Not quite sure why you need alfalfa pellets to wean goats. If you're feeding alfalfa hay and supplementing with grain, your kids should be fine. I only feed the pellets if my goats are on grass hay or I need to pump up the calcium for my pregnant/lactating does. At any rate, if they are the pelleted form, no need to soak.

Sometimes kids take a while to catch on to alfalfa pellets. Especially as it sounds like all their needs are being met elsewhere, alfalfa hay, grain and milk. Keep it out for them, I mix it in with their grain when I first introduce grain to kids. Kids will drink milk as long as its available to them. If you need to wean them, start backing off on their milk until you stop altogether. If they are eating hay and grain, they'll be fine.
Out of curiousity....why feed alfalfa pellets if your feeding alfalfa hay??

How old are these babies? Mine start eating grain wit hthe moms at a few weeks but don't really "eat" it until they are around two months old, then they still don't eat enough to stay healthy. Mine yell for days until they have no voice, at first while they are away form mom.
