bloody Milk ?

Ok so what would cause there to be small amounts of blood in the milk?

she's been doing good no major problems with milk and now we're getting some blood in the milk. Could it be from vacs? we did that late last week.

Appreciate any help
George

I've never had that happen before.

I talked about it with my mother, who is a HUMAN lactation counselor. She said with women it may be from cracked nipples, or human papiloma virus in the nipple ducts. My sister-in-law also had blood in her milk after she wasn't able to nurse her baby for over a day. I guess her milk production just suddenly decreased.

With women they are told to see a doctor if it occurs past 2 weeks postpartum.

How long has your doe been in milk?
Do her teats look okay?

Sorry I could help more.

Heidi

Pink milk is from a burst capillary vessel in the utter. should clear on its own. seeing drops of blood is from lower nipple channel bigger problem seen when hand milking to high on nipple.

She's been giving for a couple months now. it might be a high grasp problem. Wife does the milking over all and always , ALWAYS gets more than I do. I think she grabs "more" than I do. One other releated question.. is the milk safe to drink? I think it would be. I mean the Kid is still nursing and he's doing great.

Tahnks for the responses..

George

This is what Ihave just read in a vet book. (The goat keepers Veterinary Book).
The milk is aesthetically unpleasent and must not be sold. Assuming that no mastitis is present, it could be fed safely be fed to dogs and cats. If the haemorrhage is very severe, cal your veterinary surgeon and he will give injections to arrest the haemorrhage.

Don't worry it will go away soon. My doe did it. it's from all the pressor in the udder before kidding and a few vessels BLOW UP! My doe did it for a few weeks I think about 1 month. I was a little worried so called our vet. She said you can give a shot or leave it to clear up. But it can take months to clear up. Mine got so bad the blood was covering the bottom of the jar and milk was PINK! Strawberry favored milk! the boys (bucklings!) loved the milk and I let her clear up. But the shot so said you can give is bloodstop! Very good name!
