Little Daisy in her new sling
Here are some pics of Daisy...The crippled/cerebral palsey doeling. She continues to improve, albeit with itty bitty baby steps.

I made the sling this morning. When/if I do another one, I'll make a few adjustments...

Why I had to make the adjustments...

I know she should have been put down but I can't help but think she deserves a chance to get better. If she weren't improving, I would have already done the deed...

Oh, and I've put a board down over the wire... I had the dogs back in that pen some time ago and had put the wire down to keep them from digging...It worked and now I can't get the stupid wire up.

She's a pretty girl.

Would it be possible to hang the sling on some kind of stiff rod like some people do with their dogs using a wire clothes line so she could move forward and backward? Kind of like a hanging monorail.

I thought about that but for the time being she just needs to "hang". We've got to get her little muscles developed and her coordination a little better. I'll change it later so she can move around. I'm already designing a "walker" for her for later...I know, I'm a sick person...and totally obsessed!

As long as she isn't in pain, go for it. It is good exercise for your brain and your heart. Great work on the sling too. Can't wait to see what you create for the walker.

You could always cover the wire up with soil. That would give her better footing than the plywood.

I think the walker idea is much better than the suspended rod.

Try putting a rubber floor mat under her for grip or glue a piece of indoor outdoor carpet into the board for traction. Then lower her just a tiny bit more so she can get a little more of her feet on the ground. Hope she continues to improve. She's a pretty goat.

When you decide to make the walker you may want to start a thread over in Shop Talk. I've always gotten good ideas over there.

Un fortunately I don't have a rubber mat and throwing dirt over it would be tricky. The dogs dug out the middle of the barn area, throwing the dirt along the walls...That's why I can't get the wire up. This weekend I'll try to cut out what I can though. I just don't have the time today as I have to go to work.

Yeah, it's definately an excersise for both the brain and the heart. Every day I have to ask, is this as good as she's going to get? Is it cruel to keep her going like this? And I never have a real good answer...I just have to trust my gut which tells me it's simply not time yet.
