Lost doeling today

I had a yearling kid today. We did not expect a baby until the 3rd and she was showing no signs when we left for church. We arrived home to find one on the ground still in the sack & mama cleaning number two. the one in the sack was still. I tried cleaning her off, perfectly formed & still warmish but I couldn't revive her. I was so hoping for a doeling out of this yearling. The buckling is fine. Adorable. I keep think if we had just gotten home 15 minutes sooner! (

Sorry you lost the baby. It's getting to where I know my does and yearlings in their line and can tell what day they will kid by feeling their udders and checking them over. It's taken me a while to get to that point. Before that, we lost a few like you did. Actually, last year I would likely have lost a preemie doeling had I not been tending to a doe who had a C section that day. While I was with her, I heard another doe pushing and was there to bring the tiny fragile kid to the house right away.

Sorry Cheryl. The same thing happened to me a few weeks ago and I thought the same thing "If only I had gotten home sooner..." My doe showed no signs of imminent kidding and it was day 143. We lost 2 but the 3rd was fine.
I'm sure that you'll be watching the rest like a hawk! I know I am!

I'm sorry for your loss, but don't beat yourself up over it. As hard as we try to always be there, sometimes it just doesn't work out that way.
