milk replacer recall

It has just been brought to my attention that the product UNI-MILK
made by Manna Pro has been recalled. There have been many cases of
kids dying from bloat when fed this product. TSC was informed on
Saturday and at least locally in Ohio has pulled all from their
shelves. PBS was informed this morning and has done the same. All
information has come directly from PBS, so this is not just a rumour.
Below is the list of Lot #'s that have been recalled. If you have
any of this product contact the company you purchased it from.

Here are the recalled lot numbers:

A 020707AZ
B 020707BZ
A 020708AZ
A 020708BZ
A 020709AZ
A 020709BZ
A 020710AZ
A 020710BZ
A 020712AZ
A 020712BZ

Thanks for the note on this. This is the one we usually get and were getting ready to go buy some.

Does anyone know if those are the ONLY lot numbers? I have been using that to 'cut' the cows milk with and it's been good, but I have a new bag (different lot number than those above) but I swear Amber bloated yesterday morning and she did refuse her feed, although she was fine by the afternoon feeding, and then last night Angel had a big hard belly too and refused her feeding. I gave her some baking soda and she was fine this morning and drank her whole bottle. I'd attributed it to eating too much grass yesterday afternoon (and Ambers in the morning I figured she'd eatten too much hay overnight) they are just starting to really like eating forage. Now I've seen this though and I'm wondering if it was that, and maybe because I had been splitting it they didn't get full-blown problems.

C H I'd say call the 800 number on the bag/box and report that to them. It may be a number they missed or something.

A friend of mine in SE WI. is having the same difficulties with a bag of Manna Pro and it has different lot number too. Her kids (a few days old) were acting odd, refusing food, appearing to have upset stomach's, ect.
After informing her of this she is not going to use it anymore.

I traded a month old doeling to a family. They put her on half cow's milk and half MannaPro milk replacer. They had raised the Boer buckling I traded her for on the same bag. After they ran out of that bag they got another one. She started having bloat issues for a couple of weeks. We don't have bloat in our bottle kids so I wasn't sure. We discussed it and I convinced her to go to just cow's milk which they did. I opened my e-mail the next morning and found Phyllis' e-mail about the recall (notice the Ohio mentioned in the post). Called the family up and told them. Their's was a different serial number as well but it made sense. Stella hadn't had trouble with the original bag, just after they opened a new bag.
They never had trouble with "Spanky" either. Spanky, now known as Rocky, his registered soon, is on whole raw cow's milk now, of course.

Manna Pro sent a couple of e-mails to some of the goat groups on Yahoo!

"There have been inquiries among the members of this forum regarding

Manna Pro Products, we are committed to providing high quality

In order to assure clear, accurate, and up-to-date information to

Thanks, I found that website the other day and went to it. Still not one of the lot numbers and my milk replacer didn't turn gray when mixed like they said the bad batches did, it was still the creamy color, but I've pulled off it and gone to whole cows milk for now. I had a second bout with the same two kids (the other two never got it) with -- I guess I'll call it 'mini bloat' -- they're fine now, and they each seemed to recover each time by the next feeding, but I am just not going to take any more chances. Too bad though, man cows milk is expensive and I don't have an outlet for fresh cows milk anywhere nearby until my friend's cow delivers (any minute now for the last several days, lol I was sure it was going to be an April fool's baby--but no.).

My pocket book is praying that silly cow hurries up.

Unimilk has always been a bad product to put kids on. I'm surprised that they are just now learning that kids die on it.

My friends kids ended up at the vet. She called Manna Pro and it sounds as if it is more than just the lot numbers listed. They also said they would pay for her vet care.
It amazes me that they (Manna Pro) are not all that concerned with getting the word out there other than their website. If I hadn't seen the post here and mentioned it to her, she would not have connected the problems she was having to the replacer and lost her goats. Never thinking to go to the Manna Pro site... Shame on them.
A big thank you to those who posted the info here!!

My friend got her kids back from the vet today, one's recovery is still questionable. It looks as if the replacer was destroying the bacteria in their rumen and that was part of what was causing the health problems.
Manna Pro still feels that they don't need to add other lot numbers to their recall list though obviously they should since it appears to be much more rampant than the few lots listed.
Again, shame on them.
