I read that article this morning. Bad news for my bottle babies. Cabrito will have to be sold younger. :P

Wish those of us actually producing that milk would see some of it......
Prices for the farmer have only been the lowest for past couple of decades and yet prices for everything else has risen.

I agree....I dont think the general public realizes how little the dairys get paid.

My son is lactose intolerant and we're already paying around $6 a gallon for generic lactose-free milk. That's one of my main motivations for getting our dairy goats. (Only 3 more weeks until I pick them up from Carisa! )

I get $7 a gallon, I quite literally sell every drop of milk I and my friends produce, closer to Houston it is up into the $12 range. There is still plenty of profit with $7 and higher it's just plain usery. Folks still sell bulk milk to cheese plants down in the high $2 and low $3 range! I know price fixing is against the law, but I am afraid my girls would be going on a milk strike with all the other folks in my area if I was selling my milk for break even prices. When folks sell milk for these kind of prices all I can think of is the poor stock! Trying to eeek out labor prices for yourself and feed the stock doesn't even compute. Vicki
