If it hasn't straightened out after 4 weeks, I would definetely splint it. I wrap it tightly with masking tape, having someone help to hold the leg straight to make a nice tight splint.

Do you give Bo-se? Any kind of weakness at birth should be way overwith by now. It is genetic, is his mom down on her pasterns...can you send me a pic vickilonesomedoe@hotmail.com

You never splint tight, if you cut off the circulation in his hooves they will slough off. Always wrap correctly, with small pieces of vet wrap you don't wrap around and around and around, it will cut off his circulation. This is something you should try to deal with at birth, same with problem ears etc., just eaiser to fix when they are hours old, rather than weeks old. If he has hyperextended the joint this whole time he has ruined the tendon and likely will always be weak in the pastern.

At the very least try bo-se, vitamin E by mouth, is he nursing on mom, does she have plenty of milk? Are you bottle feeding, giving him enough for bone growth? I know Sherrie C...BryrPatch Nubians uses it and she is in your state. Vicki
