adding a new goat to the family......

Hello all,

We have 2 neutered male goats that are pets. We have plenty of room; they live in what used to be the chicken yard, plenty big, and have half the barn for shelter. Someone we know needs to find a home for their single goat, a female, also raised as a pet, an FFA project I think. Are there any problems we should anticipate, or special things we should do, to help her adjust to a new place; and, will the boys accept her OK? Will they try to bully her, or will they be happy to be her older brothers? These two boys have been together several years.

Any advice, comments, suggestions appreciated.

Thanks.

Find out what she was being fed and get some of that hay and grain to ease her into what you are feeding your goats. Goats do not like sudden feed changes. Worm her when she gets to your place. It is very natural for goats to head butt a new herd member until they establish their pecking order. They should all get along after they get used to each other.

Is she up to date on her vaccinations?

We'll find out. Thanks.

BTW, she got here just a little bit ago, and she's just beautiful. About a year old. She and the boys are doing a little friendly head-butting, and that standing up goat-thing, and seem to be getting along just fine.
