New Alpine Baby

Our neighbor who is in his 70s and has been raising unregistered Alpines for years brough down a little buckling this weekend who was being pushed out by his 2 sisters. Mom is a FF and cannot feed trips. This is the 2nd set of trips he has had out of a FF. The buck maybe weighs 4 pounds at the most and is a purebred alpine. Our neighbor waited 3 days to bring him down. He looked awful when he brought him. His ears were all floppy and he was so thin. Happy to say he is looking much better with a little food in his tummy. The same neighbor also had twin does that the mom died, he is bottling those, but had left the buck with mom.

Most of his younger does are out of our buck and these new kids are out of one of our bucks. The new little guy is the greatgrandson of my CH Alpine doe Lacey.

I just wish our neighbor would learn that in order for us to save the baby we need him within a few hours to get him the colstrum he needs. He got some colostrum from his mom, so should be fine on that end. We offered him some milk to feed the bottle doelings he is feeding and he said no. He dam raises all kids and does not milk any. Not sure what he is feeding them. We have milk coming out our ears. LOL

The new little guy is doing great. We weighed him this morning and he weighs 4 pounds, so he was under 4 pounds when he was born. We can tell that he has grown already. He stands in his crate in the bathroom and cries. Mom let him run around the house this morning and he is a wild thing. He is now waiting the other 2 does due soon to have him some buddies so he can go to the barn. He is eating like 5 times a day (only 5-6 oz at a time) That is about all he can handle. We have named him since he is doing so well. We are happy to welcome little Micah to our herd.

What!?! No pics?!!!

Glad to hear he's doing well, and that you got in time (although not as early as you should have).

I have a pic of baby Micah in the photo album on my website along with a couple of cats and another goat. I am still working on the site, so excuse the dust. Keep in mind that Micah is a purebred alpine buck. He did not like eating his bottle standing on the kitchen floor.
