Help

I finally got ahold of my vet he pretty well said my doe would die. Shes 3 days old and she arrived 5 days early. She is only taking about 2 oz per feeding.Last night she was wheezing and coughing. Today she sounds better. Her temp is 102.4 resparations and heart rate is good.My vet said she would die and that theres not alot we can do for her other than tube feed her.So I have made an appointment for her tomorrow morning because he cant see her today. Any advice....Oh she weighs about 5.5 pounds.

Find a new vet! Seriously though, offer food every two hours, try some nutridrench too. Keep her in the house; heck I even take them to bed with me.

Are you feeding mother's milk? I would say the most important thing would be to keep her warm and feed her very well, that being her mother's milk.

And feed her small amounts often, and make sure she is pooing well.

I'm sure other's will have more information.

Make sure the milk is warmed nicely too. I've seen them reject it if it's too cold.

Why isn't she on momma instead of a bottle of momma's milk?

I've found it takes a couple of days for them to really get to enjoy the bottle. Just be persistent. Sounds to me like she's going to be fine. Here's hoping.

I've got a little buckling who's doing amazing. He started out at 2 pounds and didn't get any colostrum or milk for about 2 days.

Yours too. If she's sucking on your fingers and stuff, she's trying. Keep her close and do your best.

I even brought Moose to work with me for a few days.

It definately sounds like she is trying to survive. I don't really know what the vet would do, I probably woulnd't mess with one, especially that one.

Agreed! Straight mama's milk is the best....but coming from a bottle is just fine. I agree too about the vet. I was lucky to find one that knows something about goats and is willing to research for what she doesn't know.

Sometimes .. a change in style or "feel" of nipple is an incentive to suck the bottle.

Good luck..that she is still here says alot.

I was thinking about you and your little goat when I woke up eariler this morning. She actually sounds like she's doing well. No temp, eating (even if it's just 2 oz's) Please do keep her toasty warm
The coughing could of been left over fluid in her lungs from birth???
What do you others think? Possible? She does sound like she's a little fighter.
Later when she's doing better at the bottle and you're feeling more comfortable about things, please post us a picture.

Good point. I have several varieties. Some kids like one more than another.
