Anybody near me?

I've got an intro thread titled I think I'm going to like it here in the Country Families area.

I am hoping to make contact with like minded persons/couples near me. Cindy and I currently live near Williamsport, PA. What I am hoping to do is introduce my wife to the lifestyle she thinks she wants to live and hopefully develop friendships that will be helpful to us.

Right now we are considering raising chickens and some goats when we make our move. Goat people near (within an hour or two) of Williamsport would be most helpful. But since we both love to ride the motorcycle we would be willing to make longer (4-6 hour) rides to meet folks who would be willing to share experiences and let Cindy see what's really involved in doing this. We'd need space to pitch our tent, either on your spread or at a local campground.

Me personally, I'd love to have goats again. I always did enjoy the milk. And if I go that route I'm definitely going to get into making cheese and yogurt too. Cindy and I have talked about doing that for years. But now I'm only 17 months from making my "prison break". Time to start some serious planning.

Hi,
I am located in Sunbury, PA (south of Williamsport). Though I am not retired, I always like to have visitors and show off my Alpine goats. Its nice to know people in the area.

Mike, I'm in north Idaho and nobody lives near me , so I want to say how much I have learned reading this forum and others about poultry/goats and general homestead things, more than I've learned in person. It's definitely better to meet up with "real" people, though, the best way to learn. There is a great deal of info here and on other like sites, so I encourage you to read and read, you'll absorb more than you think.

I am nowhere near you but I want to say that I have met quite a few people from this forum in person and they have all been wonderful. No one has been a disappointment and I have made some great longterm friends. Best of luck to you and your wife!

I'm a half-hour north of Binghamton, NY. You'd be most welcome to come check out my homestead. I raise Nigerian Dwarf goats, heritage turkeys, fiber sheep, chickens, and have a market garden.

This is great! You all are so kind to open your homestead to us. We will be attempting to meet several of you this summer. Well, except for ID. That's alittle far to ride on a weekend, even for us.

I live right near to tioga12, about 40 minutes from Williamsport. I only have two goats, but for my senior project I got them bred and am making soap out of them. I have an 50% oberhasli and 100% nubian, both registered, and I got them bred this winter to a registered nubian, so hopefully I will have some nice little registered nubian kids which I can sell for good money

Good luck in your endeavors

Not necessarily true... though I don't actually have goats and probably won't end up with them! Although I must say, N Idaho is pretty darn rural! So is E WA.
