Do you need to tatoo for a meat operation only?

Hello, I was just wondering if have to tatoo your goats even if you are doing just a meat operation? I have two does and one of them had twins, 1 buck and 1 doe. I am keeping them both for now. The buck I will sell later as a breeding buck after I use him for a year or so. I don't have tatoo equipment or anything yet. I don't plan to sell pure breed or anything.
Thanks, Erin

It would be helpful for you to keep track. Not necessary but helpful. You would always know who is who , there age etc.

If you regerster you boers then yes. But if not then you don't. Once I buy a totto-er I will do any animal(s) sold for meat. Just if they don't end up, and it will ony be the herd name, good if you want to buy back a boer that looks just like anothet one!

For our goats that we are raising strictly for meat we do not tattoo. Everyone gets an eartag at birth. Tattoo might be helpful for keeping track of who is who, but it is not required unless you plan on registering them.

Yes, A tag would be better, We only keep 3 boers and my dairy goats. So tagging is just a large cost we don't need. But if you want to tag ok, But we don't. Not to turn you away, but our ram had a tag and ripped it off. He was in pain for days! (metal tag)
