the panting continues--I need expert advice

I have a doe that is panting/breathing shallow and fast for 6 days. I took her to the vet on Thurs. She had xrays and a CBC. Her lungs look terrible with granules (is that the word she used??) throughout. Her CBC indicates she's fighting an infection. The vet gave me antibiotics. We switched them on Monday, because she was still breathing funny (but I thought she had improved). Now 2 days on the new meds and she is worse. I switched her back to the original antibiotic just tonight.

The vet did a fecal and didn't see lungworms. She obtained the sample with one of those loop stick things, because believe it or not, the doe didn't pee or poop in the vet's office. SHe said that she looked for signs of the lungworm and didn't see any. "And with the way her lungs look, I would have seen lots." I am wondering if she did the proper procedure for lungworms and if she had enough sample. She is a great horse vet. But she mentioned a few things that didn't seem consistent with what I have heard from other goat people. So I am not completely and utterly confident.

My question is, should I worm the goat? I haven't because her fecals in the spring and fall have come back negative. She seems in good condition other than the breathing. She's eating and drinking and seems a little weak, but still doesn't act sick. Is it okay to worm her while on the antibioitics?

Thanks!
Jennifer

What kind of antibiotics? I'd have my goat on Nuflor. http://www.nuflor.com/

In higher mammals, panting can also indicate an enlarged heart, and fluid around the lungs and heart. An xray may not show this. An ultrasound may be in order if the antibiotics don't make some improvement.

The bottle is out in the barn, and I don't remember the name. The second type we used (that I switched her off of) is SMZ 960. They are both taken orally. Nuflor is sc? The vet and I discussed doing shots to avoid wrecking havoc on the doe's digestive system. The vet felt limited in what she could prescribe orally. I'll gve the vet a call in the morning...
