We have a new girl, I think she's about to bust
Should we put her by her self? Or would it be ok to leave her in with the others?
She is a African pygmy, and she is so bagged up. I feel so bad for her it looks like she's ready to burst. Should i milk her ( if she will let me)?
we were at a sale and she went for a really low price, Most everything but rabbits were going low.

Has she all ready kidded? If not I would not milk her, but if she has you might want to milk a little out of each side to relieve some of the pressure.

No she hasn't kidded yet. We didn't even know she was PG when we bid on her. She is just so full it looks like she's going to burst. So i thought i would ask and see if i needed too or not. I'm new with PG babys.

If she is pregnant do not milk her. If she is that full she can go anytime now.

That's what i was thinking. i havn't been able to find much info on or when to milk.
Should i take her out of the goat pen and put her some where by her self? I would guess this would be the right thing too do. But i thought i would ask.
And if i'm right i was told early morning and early evening was when they like to give brith. Is this right?

First off, if her udder feels tight, it'll probably be within the next 12 hours or so, I'd imagine. Second, I'd put her somewhere alone... She's probably stressed out of her mind! Hope you have bottle feeding equimpent on hand... I'd be worried that in her confusion, she might reject her kids... While not NORMAL, i'd still worry about it. If she kids, do NOT leave the barn till all kids are up, dry, drinking, and mother is caring for them.
There are ligaments that you can check and you will know wether she will kid in the next 12 hours. They are on either side of the tail and will 'dissapear' when her body is reading to pass the kids through the birth canal. They usually will dissapear within 12 hours of kidding. When they are gone, you will feel like you can reach your hands around her spine right above her tail. Here are a couple photoshopped pics to help you locate them.
If you havne't gone through a goat birth before, Or if you're new to goats, go to www.fiascofarm.com and take a GOOD look around. It's one of the BEST goat sites. My website, www.freewebs.com/short-and-sweet-goats/ has some good kidding pictures and some other good info.
Good luck with your new goat and extras! (we expect pictures!)

Yes i have all the bottel feeding equimpent. O wait i need to get the smaller nipple. (we had a calf that we bottle feed). Ok if i under stand right, i'll check her and if i can feel something like pencils then we still have time. But if i feel notting then she should be ready in the next 12 hours. right.
Thank you for the sites, i'm going to go and read. Yes i'll take pics when the babys get here. Thank you

First of all, you said you have a new girl. How long have you had her? Do you have any pictures of her? The reason I ask, maybe whoever you got her from just toook babies off her. If that is the case (yes) milk her out just enough to release some pressure, if you are SURE she is pregnant, the (NO), Do not milk her at all. Have you felt for the legaments like Mygoat posted? First you have to find out if she is pregnant or kids just came off.

Just wondering when was the sale? If you bought here Saturday afternoon and Sunday her udder is huge, there's a chance she already kidded and the kids were either sold seperate or kept.
Does she look pregnant, other than the udder?
If she had babies nursing that were suddenly removed the udder will appear ready to burst and uncomfortable. Might not be the case, but you never know.
Good luck

Looks like she was sold without her kids. She is fairly narrow to be just ready to give birth. Unless the kid was in the birth canal in which case she would be pushing.
Looks like a doe who kidded within the past couple of weeks and hasn't filled back out again.
If the udder is going down again, that also leads one to think she's been there, done that already.
If you wrap your hands around and pull up gently just in front of the udder and feel a small kid in there, then she is probably pregnant.
Otherwise, I'm guessing her kids were pulled off of her or they died and she was sold without them.

I agree with Roseanna. Kids were lost or sold spearately.
I'm looking at the area around the mouth there, that could be the last remnants of ort (or soremouth, another name for it), hard to tell from your pix. Might just be white hairs, but the form around the mouth looks characteristic of the sores. If so, she may have had the kids early, or been unable to stand them sucking (it can affect the tissue of the nipples, makes it hurt). Couple good reasons to sell the kids as bottle babies, if they did not die of neglect, and then sell her. There's your reason "she went for a really low price." Well, that and age. And condition.
If it was ort it's no big deal, not deadly or anything, more a nuisance, but does drag down the pregger doe if she has it and does run the risk of her not wanting to suckle the kids. It does NOT mean she cannot become pregnant or be a fine goat from here on out. But some people get weirded out about the sores (usually those who have no knowledge of the condition). My entire herd has had ort once, a result of an infected goat I brought in. They are all fine and kidding now.
More details here.

Ya i thought she was under weight if she was PG. Which i thought with udders as big as they were/ are she had to be PG.
No those are white hairs around the nose and on her ears. Thank you all, Pics can tell someone thats been there done that a world of info.
So if she has already kidded, is there anything that i need to do for her? Or after she is done in the hold pen can be out with the others?
Thank you all again, my frist unplaned kidding and i didn't know what too do.

Keep a close eye on her udder. If a half feels very tight and warm she could be getting mastitis and you will want to milk her out. She should dry up if you leave her alone. No demand...no new supply.

She looks like she is done kidding. try milking a little out of her and out it in the micowave. If it becomes chunky then it's colostrum, and she just kidded or is going to soon. Good Luck call me any-time. (Pm me for my number!)
