Where do yall get supplies?
I'm having a hard time finding my goat stuff locally. I'm having to drive at least 30 mi one way. I had to order goat minerals and its going to take 10 days to get here. I don't buy many things via the net. Does any one else have this problem?

I hate a real problem finding anything localy for my goats. Finally convinced the local purina sales dealer to order in goat mineral for me - after talking to him for 2 years about it. I have to order most of my supplies online. Have ordered from Caprine Supply, Hoeggers and Pipestone Vet. They are all good. Hoeggers will let you order things COD if you have to and they ship UPS - which is pretty fast. Pipestone Vet sometimes uses a regionaly based shipping company which sucks if you need it in a hurry since they don't have a regualr route in my area. I still get my basic stuff like CDT, ect from Runnings. Everything else I have to order.

Driving 30 miles is the norm for me. We don't have any feed stores or even a decent size grocery store in the town where I live. Since I drive to the town 30 miles from here to go to work anyway, I pick up my grain and mineral as well as food before or after work. I get to Great Falls a few times a year to get more specialized items and get the rest from my vet, Hoeggers or Caprine Supply.

Sharon on this forum , sorry can't rememeber what she posts under. M& S supply. Most prices are cheaper than any of the mentioned sites. If she does not have it listed on her site just ask and she can probally get it.

For my goats, I like Caprine Supply. And I just used Livestock Concepts to order a bunch of vaccines for the goats (they actually carry the Colorado Serum Pasturella vac for goats!) and donkeys, fair pricing, great packaging and very fast.

I'm just glad my vet has me covered until I figure out which <- -----> way is up. Who would ever guessed Id fall for goats. I get giddy at the thought of having fresh milk.

Yes, well don't have any things for goats around here. I got a 16% dairy goat ration, and they will not order a higher % ! Im mad. we have 3 farm stores and they all have stuff for cow, horses ,and some sheep. but northing for goats. I am very thougthful and go in and look for some-thing that may do.

wildhorse, you can probably talk your farm store manager into stocking minerals and some basic, repetitive needs for you, if you tell him or her that you will buy those things from them exclusively if they will keep them on hand for your immediate purchase when you need them. It is hard in some markets for farm stores to keep everything, since the Net has taken so many of their sales away.
If you make that promise, you may get results. I have, locally.
For my non-repetitive needs, I usually scout all the sites mentioned and buy what is cheapest. Sometimes on some stuff by the time you pay the shipping you are better off buying the higher -riced one at the farm store.
I also found that you can buy syringes WAAAAAAAAAAAAAY CHEAPER at human healthcare supply houses than you can from any vet or animal site I know. I buy them by the box. A box lasts me a long time (sometimes years), but they are cheap that way. The last box I bought was half price of what online sites wanted. Same syringe. Like with other stuff, I shop the suppliers for best price.

Bob - what sort of documentation hoops do the human healthcare suppliers make you jump through to order syringes? I know the midwife supply houses want to see a state license to order sharps or sutures.

I think you mean me, mousebandit. Requirements? Locally, they ask me for cash or a good check. I tell them up front the stuff will be used for animal health on my farm. Shrug...it may differ by state or company. I have never had a problem. See Medical Equipment & Supplies and/or Hospital Equipment & Supplies in the Yellow Pages.
It may help that I speak to them specifically about makes and model numbers of what I want, rather than asking for any ol thing.

My local Agway will order almost anything I need. I just give them a week or so notice. They now keep the goat minerals, wormers, etc. on hand! I only like Nutrena feeds, but will start growing/milling my own this year. Mike

I get my goat minerial from Rural King. I get the grain from the elevator. Anything else I need such as medicine like cd/t, tylan, pen. I get from either Rural King or the vet. Other stuff I get from JeffersLiveStock.
