time to induce?

Hi guys,

I'm in need of a little help.
I have a second freshener LaMancha who has pregnancy toxemia. Very heavily bred and today is day 145. I've been treating her with propylene glycol, MFO, VitB, VitC, VitA&D, ringers, & homeopathy since Monday. At first she was a bit unsteady on her feet, then she would only eat half her grain, now she only nibbling at it. She eats AP, but not too much, hay, and the tiny bit of BP & BOSS I top dress her grain with.
Yesterday she seemed to be getting better, I cut some pine and hemlock which she ate and even ate a few slices of banana and oranges. Up until today she her attitude was normal but today she seems to be going down hill. She doesn't want any browse and has had a small amount of hay and AP. I thought she was in the beginning stages of labor but she still has ligs and she has not bagged up at all.

So, I was thinking it might be time to induce. Which of course I have never done. From what I gather it's 2cc's Lute IM and should take less than 36 hours because she's at 145.

I have colostrum from last year and still have two ladies in milk so that's not a problem.
What do you think?
Is it time?

TIA
shereen

shereen what makes you so sure it is pregnancy toxemia and not hypocalcemia?
what is her temperature? is she still drinking?
if you want to induce the dose is 2cc that is right. make sure you are treating for the right thing

Hey Susanne,

I am familiar w/Sue Reith's articles and a long time DG+ user.
This doe is my sickly little lady, it seems their is always something wrong with her. I know I need to cull her, you don't have to say it, I'm just not there yet.
She's a low input(grain), low output kinda gal and as sweet as can be, that's pretty much why she's still around.
Anyhow, her temp is normal 101.9, her lungs sound fine, she is dring water, but her urine is darker than I would like. I'm actually going to up her dose of ringers.
She still up and still has attitude, she's just not eating much. I talked to my vet and he too thinks it's pregnancy toxemia. For me it was the normal temp and the tender feet. I did test her urine and it was normal, but the vet said sometimes the propylene glycol will mask the ketones if you start treating it early.
I just picked up the lute and an going to go ahead and induce her. So far no one has given me a reason not to. I would rather do it now and not have to deal with it if she goes down.
I think that would just use up the rest of her reserves.
Any advice is still welcome though.

New here so I can't offer advise, just support. If you have been around the block with goats, trust your instincts. Hope all goes well and that you soon have healthy babies as well as a healthy mom.

Last year our new buck threw large kids. It was a nightmare season, with out the Lute it would have been much worse. At that many days I would Lute.
