Testing

Last year I tested my goats for CL, CAE, and Johne's. All (then 6) came to a total of 15.00 per goat, x6 = 90.00... Plus whatever shipping was, maybe around 10.00. I sent it to the pan american vet labs. Good price, no? this was at The Pan american vet labs (in texas, I believe.)

Well, I see that most preffer the WADDL site more. Why? It charges more! It comes out to 18.75 per goat... as compared to 15! Plus they have all sorts of fun charges, like out of state, must prepay 1/2 the price, and it's awful confusing to me.

Anywho, is there some reason I SHOULD be using waddl? Is the pan american vet labs not an accredited lab? Someone here once told me that pavlabs are private, but does it really matter? They use the same testing procedures. I now have 9 goats to test, and I'd really rather pay 135.00 at the pavlabs than 168.75 at WADDL, unless there's a good reason.

Thanks again.

WADDL is a teaching lab, attached to the WSU vet science school. I don't think one is necessarily better than the other, but WSU has a reputation for high confidence in their testing procedures. They have a low occurance of false positive or misdiagnosed negatives. I don't know what PAVL's record is. As a commercial lab they can probably offer their services at a slightly lower rate because of volume.

wsu never charged me before the test result.
i like this lab. when ever i call they are very friendly and answer every question i have.
i heard to many bad stories about panam that i don't have confidence in them.
if i buy from another breeder i would always want to have the test repeated at waddl. i would gladly pay for it of course.

We use PAVL, no complaints so far, very easy to deal with.

Pan American Does the same. They also give free re-tests for borderline results.

So far I like pavlabs. They are friendly and not too confusing, all info needed for packing is easily found on thier website. What have you heard bad about them?
