What do you think...??? PIC

This Doe is a reg. Nubian 3 yr old. She kidded Quads in Oct, and the year before that triplets. She also tested CAE neg. She is also bred and due in the Middle of July as she was just recently bred. ALSO- you will notice she had horns in one pic and has since been dehorned. What do you think of this girl? I realize she is thin in the first pic but I understand that, anyone raising 4 babies might be a little thin. What do you all think? tell me...the truth! I will mention what the asking price is, she wants $125 for her but I'm trading ducks and she is driving almost 2 hours to drop her off her so would take $100 CDN. Good bad etc.

A recent pic

Back in October with her 4 babies
What do you think...??? PIC - Goats

I'm new to goats and was planning on getting a goat initially as a pet, but sicne have decided I would be better off getting a doe and getting kids out of her every year..for how ever long she is healthy. Sell off the babies and keep a little money in return. I would not keep a buck I would take her to a buck or vis versa. We raise sheep, cattle and horses. We do have the feed and I have been doing plenty of research, I'm also an agriculture student.

Thanks

I think a doe that kidded quads in October and is already rebred is going to be a poor candidate for a long healthy lifespan. Just my opinion, regardless of how she "looks", her little 3 year old body has been extremely stressed already. She looks small for a nubian, and at three, I would guess she's stunted from all the breeding.

I think you are getting a heck of a bargain at $100. She looks a little small for a 3 year old but feeding triplets then quads would slow her own growth or even stunt her a little. The pics don't really show width or udder both are important. But.. you aren't going to milk her or show her. Just remember folks who buy a doe dairygoat likes to know how the udder looks and how easy the dam is to milk. Plus believe it or not the buck makes a difference in the sale of the kids too. You could breed her to a meat goat buck like a Boer and sell the kids for meat too. I'd buy her but I love Nubians and raise meat goats. It will be an education for you too. Most folks either love or hate goats. I am one of those loony goat lovers. Good luck Oh a PS goats are herd animals which means they are not the happiest when all alone.

Yes, look for all dairy things in her, But 100 is not a huge amount to loose if she doesn't do right! Goats are herd animals so I have a buck for sale! want him??

Well I was actually thinking about breeding her to a boer, there are a couple boer breeders around here. Also when she kids, she would raise them and get the time off, I would only breed her again in October ish to have her kid around the same time our sheep lamb.

Also about the first pic, I believe the person who took this pic was up on something or higher some how. I thought she looked small too, but it looks like a weird angle.

There is a girl looking for a home for a little wether, weaned a few months ago, and she is coming my way in a few weeks, she said she can drop him off if I was interested, no money exchanged. I was thinking it might be nice to have her a buddy, although she would be raised with out sheep. I'm also going to a local auction in 2 weeks might be something there.

She kidded quads in October, will kid again in July and then be bred back in October? I am new here but that sounds like an awful lot to expect out of any doe, especially one on the smallish side?

Goats prefer one of their own species so the whether is a better option than the sheep. Although mine live together, they don't "socialize" with each other.

$100 is cheap for a bred doe - what was she bred to this time? If your'e getting purebred Nubian kids, maybe keep one of her kids (if she has a doeling) and sell her as a milker to a family. ...just a thought.

She looks nice from what we can see in the pictures - good-sized teats on her. I don't think she looks particularly thin for a dairy goat.

The only problem with keeping her out with your sheep is copper. Copper is toxic to sheep, but goats need to have it.

Is she registered? $125 sounds like a reasonable price, even if she isn't. She's a proven producer. I paid $350 for my Saanen, and she was cheap at the price.

I wouldn't breed her back in October - that's too soon. She should milk for 10 months at least, with 2 months off before she kids, so if she kids in July, wait until December/January at the earliest. My plan ( ) is to breed two years in a row, and then let them have the third year off, if they look like "milking through".

Sorry guys, I wouldn't breed the very next Oct. it would be the following year October!! Sorry my mistake.

Hey!! HAZY!! You might want to be careful about the stupid sheep thing, your talking to a person who has been showing sheep for 8 years!!! and I really like them!

About the Copper. Since we have cattle we also use TM mineral blocks, supplemented Cooper, if we got another goat to keep her company, we could keep them with the cattle and there would be no problem with copper. I was thinking about raising a doe "If she had won" and sell it to someone interested.

This doe is registered and I can get her papers, she is also bred Nubian. I could possibly register and viable doe kids. and sell or keep. etc.

I would get her Melissa. she looks like a nice animal and look at the pretty babies she produces! I just love that little spotted one.

BTW - congrats again on your big win showing your market lamb recently - you have to be happy about that! You are a real role model to these younger 4H kids and I have talked to my childern and used you as an example of how hard work pays off! Good job!!

Here in Ontario 100 is a real bargan for a regestered nubain. Heck it's a bargan for an unregestered nubain. I'd say go for it.I'd love to find them that cheap.Even at the local sales barns cull goats go for at least 100.

Thanks Guys, I'm going to send this lady another e-mail and make sure she will transfer the papers over to me. I know about the Prices here in Ontario!!! Thats originally why I was thinking about getting a couple for a College student any extra cash is good. and the prices at our salebarns are crazy high, for what I would be willing to pay for an animal from auction.

This is why I was debating whether or not I would find a goat in my price range to begin with. I hope she is nice and quiet. If she happens to have trips or Quads again, that would be wonderful!!!

prairiecomforts- Thanks, I had my show in Sept. another girl on the sheep board had her show the most recently. But Thanks I really do like 4-H and helping out younger members. I hope to become a Junior leader this year and once 21 comes!! only about 3 more years, I hope to possibly be a leader, I really want to bring some new clubs to our area!!

Thanks, Melissa
