uterine infection while pregnant?

Have a 4 year old, 3rd pregnancy doe-pasture bred, but should be approx.4 monthes along. Tuesday a.m.,had what appeared to be a "dime size" water bag at her vagina-not protruding-just kinda there. She has been acting fine, eating ect.-the "water bag?" dissapeared to be replaced by what appered to be normal pregnancy discharge, not much of it. There was never any sign that she could have aborted, still has a pregnant belly. This morning she was reluctant to come eat, and now has a more "slimey, white-infection looking discharge "all over her tail-no bad smell, and not brownish tinted like an after birthing infection would look. This does NOT look like normal pre-kidding discharge-more like puss. Temp is 106*, no other signs of illness-does not need wormed, does not want to join the herd-Never heard of infection while pregnant, i thought they would just carry dead kids, then birth them at normal time, or abort. She kidded fine last year.
I gave her 4.5c.c. bio-mycin (she probably weighs about 130 #'s)-and probias.Have her seperated from the herd-she is not bagged up enough, nor sunk in enough to be close to kidding. I really don't believe she aborted.-but-this does look like a uterine infection! Any ideas?

It does sound like this doe does have some type of infection going on. I am not sure that I would call it a uterine infection or you would be able to tell because of the color and smell of the discharge. I have does that dischargelike this during pregnancy.
If she has 106* I would definately keep up the Biomycin except give her 5.5cc instead of 4.5 that is not a high enough dose for the size doe and you will only be making whatever is bothering her resistat to the drug. Also if you have or have access to banamine I would give her that to lower her temp. If you don't I would crush up 6 adult aspirins and give to her once a day. Keep up the probios for at least 5 days after her last shot of Biomycin. I would try cutting her some evergreens or something that she likes to eat that won't upset her rumen too badly. She is in a time in her pregnancy that if she isn't eating she could go into ketosis very easily so she needs to keep her calories up.

A uterine infection would knock you over with the smell. A doe can carry previous infection that is introduced at her last kidding in a closed cervic, get bred and then when the cervic opens for her to kid a year later, have slurry kids and an infection that when air hits it, gags you, and usually kills her as it goes systemic. She could have a cyst on her cervic like a hemoroid, that burst as her cervic softened. But if it was an infection inside her utuers you would not know yet, or she would be severely ill with a very stinky bottom.

Does have normal discharges as they age but are usually mucousy, now green and yes it can be a sexual transimitted disease. Can you run some of the discharge to the vet for them to check out?

You are right that uterine infection is usually dead blood brown in color.

No clue why she would have a thick white discharge. Your really doing all you can drug wise, although I would be giving her injections every 12 hours of the tetracycline...3.5cc per 100 pounds, trying to kick it's butt quickly. Banamine for the fever...it's something like 13.5 aspirin per 100 pounds, so use tylenol...shoot go read for yourself in the goatkeeping101 section at dairygoatinfo.com we have saanendoah.com old med list up, sure it's tylenol you can give for fever at a low dose. Banamine just works so darn much better.

Be careful if she is kidding, wear gloves, test the placenta even if you end up having to put her down when she kids, because buck who bred her could have passed something on to the next doe he bred. Please keep us posted. Vicki
