What to do out of alfafla!

I am on my last bale of alfafla hay! I under estimated on that and over bought on grass! And I am unable to find any as of this moment. I do have access to alfalfa pellets at $8 a bag. I am feeding BoerX momma nursing two, a Nubian with twins and two wheters. I am a newbie and want to make sure I am not short changing my momma goats -- what would you suggest - do I up my pellets?

Current feed - free choice grass, some pine, was getting a leaf of alfalfa at night along with 3 cups of pellets and a cup or two of grain (oats/barley/pellet/corn/sunflower seed mixture)

TIA!

if you have good grass hay and feed your girls about 3# alfa pellets each they should do fine.
your wethers don't need the grain at all.

How important is alfalfa? Mine are all free range but they have constant supply to good hay. They eat the pig feed too. they all seem fine , healthy, and happy.

My dairy girls only get alfalfa hay as a 'treat'. I feed alfalfa pellets as the 'main course'. Milkers do great on them. Sometimes you can buy direct from the mill for less - if there is one nearby.

Thank you! Music to my ears! The boys are only getting the grass and pellets as treats! I will just continue with the pellets. I can wait for the green grasses of spring!

You can also get by with beet pulp. It is the most underrated forage out there! It offers a fair amount of fiber like hay, and goats seem to enjoy it. Start by feeding one handful dry...gradually increasing the amount.
