It's fine - people do that on purpose - before breeding and before kidding.

joken where are you located? is your area deficient in seleniium? if they need bo-se you can gve it without problems about two weeks before due date.
also give the kids 1/4 to 1/2 cc and vit e capsule when they are born.

Check to see if your area has SE problem if so then give shots. If not then do not give shots because if don't have problem it can cause troubles then.

A question for you folks that use Bo-Se: We use Mu-Se 3 weeks precalving with our dairy cows. Usually 5 ml per medium sized cows.
How do the Bo-Se and Mu-Se products differ?

Both MU-SE and BO-SE are prescription drugs. I prefer BO-SE but have used MU-SE for our goats. The difference is in the strength. MU-SE is 5X as strong as BO-SE.

Normal dosage for BO-SE is 1cc/40#.
Dosage for MU-SE is 1cc/200#.

We give this to our does 4-6 weeks before kidding. I'll also give it to our bucks approximately 4 weeks before breeding season begins. Newborns are given 1/4 cc at birth.

So, does Oregon have selenium deficiency problems, then? I'm in SW Oregon and I'm picking up two new pregnant mamas today, due to kid anytime. Should I be giving the kids BO-SE via shots? Is it too close to kidding to give the mamas some? (They had their "first" shots but none since and this is their first kidding.) THANKS! Also, any other last minute tips or things I should make sure I have? - I'm heading into town for supplies.

I'm not sure you can make a blanket statement and say one area is sufficient or deficient. Selenium amounts can differ even from one farm to another. Plus, how much is in your grain? How much in your minerals? I would get an occasional weak leg on kids, despite being in a so-called sufficient area. Now I BoSe pregnant does. I'd be kind of afraid myself to use Muse since it's more potent.
