Just delivered triplets

for my neighbor.

She called last night at 11 and said she thought one might be having trouble but she would call if she needed me. My hands are small & she couldn't get hers in to do anything. This morning at 5:15 she called. She came to get me as the roads were bad. The first kid was presenting back first! That yearling doe was so small. I felt so sorry for the mom. All three are alive, but the first one isn't moving as much as I would like. But at this point I think we are very lucky that mom & babies are just alive.

Next time, go with my gut & after 2 ours of labor, CHECK to see if they are turned sideways!!!! And if you have to pull a secod or third baby, get ahold of the BACK legs. The head on the third one wouldn't stay in position & turned back off to the side. My neighbor, whose hands weren't so slippery, finally just pulled it that way. Rear legs first would have been much better.

There is NO rush like delivering kids & getting them all out safely!

wow what a delivery. Hopefully they make it. I just dread having to intervene. None on goats yet, just cows and that was enough.

I know a lot of people breed yearlings and everything is just fine, but I sure hate to see those little still-growing does trying to deliver multiples. Hope everybody is doing well.

Way to go Cherly. I have a doe that is going to deliver any day now. I am praying that God will let me be there with her, because last time the baby was just the butt first. I had to go in and more her around to be able to pull her. I know the mom was very little last time but I am just worried.
Keep us posted on them. Hope they all make it. Is the first one doing better?

Jan called at 12:00 and said that they were all up and eating. The one is still not as active as his brothers, but eating is a good sign. If he doesn't hold his own here before to long, knowing Jan, he will become her pet and end up bottle fed.
