Overdue goat

How late can they go???

I swear she's out there with her legs crossed, 'holding it' ... nigerian doe, wide as a house. She was due the 7th or the 8th, and is definitely 'close' -- she's got an udder, and is unbelievably big ... but no kids. No sign of kids. No sign of labor at all ...

Grrr. She'll probably drop them at the most inconvenient time possible ... but how late can they actually go past the due date?

If you are sure about the dates I would give her a shot of lute to induce her.

I agree. If you are ABSOLUTELY sure of those dates, then I'd contact the vet and tell them that your doe is overdue and needs to be induced.

you mentioned she was due the 7th or 8th but what day would that be from breeding. Some Nigies go 145-147 days but can easily go 150 or so.

I would wait a few more days. I had a Boer doe that went 8 days over last month. She had trips and I thought she was going to bust! But everything was fine. A friend of mine who's been raising goats for years has had one go almost 2 weeks overdue. They did have the vet induce her, but everthing came out fine as well. He said that as long as the doe doesn't have a bad smell coming out (that would indicate a dead kid) she is probably okay.

Point is you do not want to wait for a bad smell or to loose the kids. If you are sure of the dates there is no reason not to induce.
