Lamancha question after Kidding-Need Advice

I tell you we learn something new everday with my munchie babies--I have a four year old Lamancha doe that just gave twin does one week ago yesterday.

Everyone is doing great--Slippers (Mom) is eating, drinking, and loving her hay!

Babies look great, and are busier than ever!

Here is my concern, yesterday I noticed that Slippers had some dark red, cream texture come out of her vulva. Not much but enough to notice it on her tail throughout the day. I dont know if this is normal since she just gave birth a week ago. Up until now she has had no discharge at all.

Looking for advice is this is normal or should I should call the vet? She is milking fine...and etc. Just dont know if the discharge is normal or not?

April

That is normal. it is just her uterus cleaning out much like a human woman does after giving birth. If it is bright red fresh blood like it is really bleeding, or if it is very very foul like somethin dead, then be concerned. many of us sniff under the tails (sounds gross but we love our goats). Anyway, the sniff test helps. A very foul smell may indicate a dead baby still in there or a bad uterine infection. By foul, I mean "knock you over" foul.

What you are describing sounds like the normal cleaning out of the uterus. if you have more concerns or more questions or it changes, please post again.

Once our neighbors drove up when my husband and I were "examining" 25 newborn baby chicks with flashlights, because we thought we could teach ourselves to sex them. We never heard them walk up behind us, as we were so "into" what we were doing. They didn't stay long!
