Kidding started

I lost a big buck last Thursday. He had been sick & then it was really cold. I lost another of my big bucks yesterday morning. Not sure what happened. He was fine the night before.

I also had a little buck born that morning.

Last night right before midnight I checked & found a set of triplets just born. 2 girls, 1 boy.

This morning I had another huge buck kid born. I had to pull that one. I had my foot on her butt & pulled with all my might to get it out.

This afternoon I had a set of twins born. I was watching momma & saw that 3 legs were coming. That was NOT good. I had to push them both back in & figure out who was who. Finally got them figured out & pulled the first one out. Another buck. Pulled the second who came out backwards. Another boy.

Went out to check about 8:00 this evening & saw another doe with 2 feet & a nose sticking out. Once again I pulled a huge buck kid. She was a first time mom.

I have 2 more to deliver any time. Then I have 2 Pygmy does due the end of the month & 2 more Nubians due in April.

I am guessing I will get more kids tomorrow. I will keep a close eye on the 2 left to kid. So far I have been lucky in finding them while in labor or after just being born. I was afraid I'd lose them to the cold.

The count so far is 6 boys, 2 girls.

Sounds like fun! (Except for the one that died ) We had our first two does kid last week, didn't want any until March but our bucks had other ideas that wouldn't be contained by mere fences. 1 Set of twins, 1 set of triplets, 2 girls, 3 boys (ain't that always the way? ) Nobody else due until mid March. Since we are bottle-feeding this year the kids came inside and are in the basement now. Of this I am glad, highs have been in the 20's, lows in the -10's, I'd be worried sick with them outside! Even though they are hardy little things. Went to the thrift store and bought shirts for every one to ware outside during 'play time'. I should get pictures . . .

That is a shame that you lost 2 adult bucks! Any idea what's going on there? Sounds as if you are having a pretty rough kidding season-all those "big" buck kids-on the other side, gives you lots to choose replacement bucks out of! Here's hoping for the remaining does to give you normal size, triplet doe kids-that they just pop right out!!

We had our second doe give birth today. She had.......QUADS!! But unfortunatley she lost two of them. One was hugh, he was still born, she had 3 others normal sized but lost one of them too. The other two are doing fine, one boy one girl.

Sorry to hear of your loss Wendy. I hope the rest of the season is gentler on you.
