Question could they have some kind of fungus?

my two saanan does are losing hair on their backs between their sholder blades and on their ears, at first i thought it was a mineral deficiency, so i took care of that, but they arent growing the hair back and now i noticed they have blackish spots on their skin everywhere there is hair loss but when i checked everywhere there is hair there arent any spots there, they seem irritated and keep trying to find ways to scratch, but they do not have mites of any kind if you have any ideas of what it is or what i can do please help

Go to the feed store and get either poder or liquid. Read the direction but usually treat every 14 days. Lice will come from you hay , mice etc . Unless they get alot of sun every day we just have to deal with it.

do you have a microscope? you could put some skin scratchings under the microscobe and look if it is moving.
if they have lice you could either give ivermectin sc or treat them with sevendust.
you would recognize a fungus on its circular shape and scaly skin. it looks whitish in color.
what you are seeing is probably skin leasions because they are scratching so much.

Treat orally with ivomec for cattle for lice. I wouldn't use powder if there are any kids around. Don't rule out copper deficiency. Are they missing hair around their eyes or the tip of their tail?

Copper would not be making them itch. But good idea for bald spots.

I have checked into the ivermectin orally vs injected for lice. I contacted Joyce from a few years ago. It will work given orally also. It still gets into the blood stream. I do believe it would work better injected with longer lasting effects.

One of my does is a chornic scratcher during the winter....course during the winter is also the only time she has long hair, the does are shaved the rest of the year. She will find a log or downed tree to rub her belly on, she straddles the tree, very unladylike and rubs and rubs, she will pull all here hair off and make small scrathes all over her foreudder. We don't get lice here, no mites, Ivermectin, nothing works, I have even burned some of the offending trees! She is due in March and at it again! She is getting her belly and udder shaved this weekend! Vicki

You can have a skin scraping done and sent out to see whats up.

Or maybe a cream for yeast infection or athletes foot ???

I would wipe the affected area with betadine then use athletes foot medicine then use a triple antibiotic to keep the skin soft so hair can grow back.Repeat the process every day for at least a week.

Ivermectin, a few drops in vitamin E oil, rubbed into the skin is also effective against mites-- and you only treat the affected areas-- Stress will trigger a mite attack--I had an old dog that would develope demodex every January-- poor thing was immune compromised his whole life.

how about zinc suplements? Zinc is a great aid to skin health

I was wondering if tea tree oil, lotion or soap would help with those spots on the back. You would have to be careful around the eye and mouth though.

Wishing you much luck on getting on top of this!
