Only Doelings

Has anyone ever heard of a Nubian buck who only fathers doelings?? I have one! This is my second year using my buck and I have only had does. Granted, they only have one or two kids per dame, but they are always does. Has anyone else heard of this?

Sex linked lethal gene? I'd breed him to some grade does of other breeds and see what happens. How many does has he been bred to in his life?

Your due for a buck year Over the lifetime of our does who kid for about 12 times, they are nearly always at 50/50. I am due for the doe year from heaven after the last several years...in one March kidding season we had 36 bucks and 2 doelings born!

Until your bucks are used heavily you really can only say that you are very very lucky Vicki

Keep track! You may have what is called a "prepotent" buck...that is, one that throw's predominantly females....VERY VERY rare! IF you keep having does, AND your buck is a really nice one who also throws good udders and milk production, he will be worth beacoup bucks!!hahaha.

Prepotent refers to a buck (or doe, for that matter) who throws his own type predominantly and consistently. Prepotency is more common among linebred and inbred animals. It doesn't have anything to do with the sex of the offspring sired.

Doelings

This is my third year using the buck I have now with the 2 does only having doelings. Granted, they each only have one kid apiece, but they are always doelings. When I had a different buck, my does always had 2 or three kids each, with one or two being does.

I vote for this answer too- for some reason the buck embryos don't implant or grow and the doe embryos survive, that could be why you're only getting singles. The does should be producing the same number of eggs as in the past...interesting.
