Smile Ya'll were right! New buckling pic

Several weeks ago I posted pics of Suzie's backend and ask ya'll if she was pregnant. A couple of you felt strongly that she was. Well, today around 1:30 Suzie gave birth to a beautiful little buckling. (And, yes, it's okay that it's a buckling because it's our first grand-goat! )

We haven't named him yet... We only have two goats (does) with normal names, Sally and Suzie. Never thought of what to name a buckling.

We also filmed his birth, but it's taking forever to load onto photobucket or I'd give the link!

Anyway, thanks so much for the help, advice, and links you provided. Most helpful, each of you!

One further question and not sure if we should be concerned. We never saw her pass the afterbirth. About an hour after giving birth, the stringy stuff was still hanging behind her. I tugged it gently and it came out. But, as I did this, I'm sure I saw something darker red that went back up inside of her. I never did see her pass anything that looked like the afterbirth pic on the links. Is there something I should do?

Thanks again!

Congrats, so cute!
It can take a while to pass the afterbirth or she may have ate it when you weren't around.
You are better off leaving the stringy stuff hang as it seems to add extra weight and may actually help the afterbirth pass. I would not pull on anything (even gently), just be patient and it will take care of itself.

Often if they are on straw it passes and then gets covered and you wont know its there unless you dig for it. My dogs find a lot of them when I get the sheep out of the pens

Congrats on the beautiful "Grand Kid" LOL

Not long after I opened this thread, she passed the afterbirth just fine.
Whew!

Thanks, all!
