baby intercoms??

I have read that some of you are using them. Is there a better then some brand out there? I need one that would work say about 200 feet. Do they come across clear enought to actually be awakened from the does in labor?
Thanks

I used my daughter's leftover one from her baby days; GRACO I believe and easily transmitted about 300 feet.

Does it work in a metal barn? I am using a webcam, and it works great. I can't use it at work, though, as we have an issue with the firewall.

Last year I usedd a intercom from Radio Shack that my mom paid $3.00 for at a sale. It worked great!! I loved the convience of the moniter! Still did regular checks, but it helped if someone came in unexpected! You can pick baby moniters up cheap - check the thrift store.

Love my monitor, it's a Fisher Price and to date it has alerted us to all my does in labor. My barn is easily 200 ft from the house, metal roof on house and barn. Can't remember why we bought the monitor, but it's really coming in handy now...Esp. with daytime highs in the 20's, that's cold for Tennessee.

Awsome, Thanks everyone. I really wanted to have the comfort of having one, but just wanted to make sure the distance would not be an issue. They sure do put you at ease when you have to keep running down a couple hundred feet to check. I will deffiently get one.
