First Babies Born on Our Farm!

Well, certainly not the first babies, since our farm is old, but the first babies born to US on our farm. It was a difficult birth-- mom was a first freshener, and I had to go in and reposition the babies, as they were malpresented. I was so scared! But it worked, and the babies are beautiful.

It is bitterly cold here, it was -12 when I went out to do chores this morning. So the babies are inside, and we are milking mom and bottle feeding babies. I hope that we can get them reunited with momma asap.

Until then, we are enjoying our new buckling & doeling, Wallace and Wen-doe-lene (Wendolene). We call them Wally and Wendy. : )

Yay!

The first pic is DD holding Wendy and the second is Wally.

Thank you. : ) I have an awesome mentor, and thankfully I had everything "at the ready" for when she told me to "go in." I was thinking that this wasn't supposed to happen on my first kidding! But all was well.

Wallace ended up with mild hypothermia, but again, being so neurotic, we noticed it right away and had everything on hand to get him to bounce back in just a few hours.

I have to recommend an amazing book that was recommended to me: Managing Your Ewe and her Newborn Lambs. It is a fantastic resource for all things birth-related, and also health issues. Of course, there are the sheep/goat differences, but for the most part the birthing differences are minimal.

I'm still catching up on my sleep, but having happy dreams!

The next one should kid mid-February, and then the last one in early March. Hopefully it will be warmer by then!!!
