Exclamation Whats Wrong With Her Legs????

WENT OUT TO talk to the kids today and noticed blood on one of my does front legs. Caught her and this is ALL the way up her legs. NO one else has it. Obviously its painful..she wont let me clean it off. Her hair comes off if you rub it and her skin is red and sore underneath. I have NO idea whats wrong with her.

I would guess mites. I just live up the road near Corvallis and noticed some of my goats biting in that area. Same thing last year. You can dust and/or spray. Can't remember the name of the spray maybe something like permectin? I'd go look but I am at work. Ken

When I won a buck at a show in a raffle, I notice patches of this kind of thing along one back flank; I got something for horses called EQUYSS I think, the one for antifungal? Anyhow, it was expensive but it WORKED and it smelled GREAT! I think it was like $24. They also have a marigold fly spray that I could spray on myself (not 'cause I have flies....) because it smells so darned good.

If it's a fungal thing, scarlet oil might work. If it's mites, I would think a good equine fly spray would work. Could it be lice?? Fly spray kills those too.

I found the same things on one of my young does last nite, I didn't know what it was but she was quite scabby & sore so I sprayed it w/blu kote. I don't know if it will help but she seemed much more comfortable and active after.

scratches

if it were on a horse i'd say it was scratches. looks exactly like it. has it been wet? lots of different treatments for it just look online. horses with long feathers tend to develop it so I imagine goats with longish hair could be more susceptable too.
