Doe duty delivery date determined
My next doe due is Josie. She's a black-headed % Boer, 6 years old, purchased right after she was bred. I know exactly when she will kid. She's due Friday (2nd) and she'll have it that night or in the wee hours the next morning because it's suppose to get down to 10 degrees. Yes, that's when it'll happen.

You know exactly when she will kid. Yeah, right...
Now that you said that, she'll kid right after evening feed on Thursday, or at NOON on Friday, both times at which you will have stepped away for something....just for a minute.....

Goats like to do that. My friend has a pen of Boers due to kid and we're sure they are waiting for the colder weather later this week.

Ugh, ain't it the truth? Naomi, our first doe of the season, on her 151st day today (Monday), and tomorrow the HIGH is 18F. Of course she couldn't have come early in our nice 30 - 40 temps.

If you keep track, from one kidding to the next, you will find that does tend to follow pattern. If she kidded at 150 days last year-she will likely kid at 150 days this year also. If she kidded at noon, she will likely kid around that same time this year. A pattern i'm not too thrilled w/as i had a few mid-night births myself last year..and the weather has gotten so cold now...that DARN buck,if he had done his job right the first time, they would have all kidded early January-when we were still having very mild temps! Don't you just love black headed boers?! (i do) Good luck, stay warm.I have been watching ever expanding bellies, but not alot of filled udders as yet-my buck had a hard time settling this year for whatever reason but the quickly expanding bellies have me kinda worried,we never used him b-4 and have no idea how big of kids he throws! All are seasoned does, except for 3 who just turned a year old-but didn't get bred till Dec.(on purpose) Best of luck!

Oh that would be great if she had them during the day. I seriously don't want to be in the barn when it's down around 10 like I was with the triplets - and fighting a horrible head cold.
But Josie cannot escape me! I am ever-vigilant with my mighty barn camera and spare set (dh) of eyes!

Last year Jane kidded at 9 AM. This year she kidded at 9 PM
Last year Dana kidded at about 2:00 PM. This year she kidded at 1AM.
I think I'll ask Josie's last owner what time she kidded last year. Ha! I'm getting this down to a science, aren't I??
Yes I love black Boers. I'm really hoping she'll have a black headed doe but you know how that goes.
At least you get to kid when it's warm!! I'll never breed THIS early again.
Here's Josie when I first got her. I think she looks kinda like a muppet or something.

Hmmm..sounds like all you have to do is add 12 hours to their last year kiddings! HA! Guess my herd just must be wierd.(?) I know in my dairy herd, when i started feeding them the "majority" of their hay at evening chores-instead of filling the manger at morning chores,-i moved ALL my kiddings from middle of the night-too 8 a.m.-noon..maybe just coincedence, but was nice to not have 1 a.m. barn calls! The Boer herd gets round bales, so can't experiment w/that "theary" on them-the majority kids during daylight-10:00 a.m. being the highest percentage of births.-but-still had 5 that kidded between 10:30 p.m. and 5 a.m. last year! Your doe is beautiful!!-if i get a black headed kid born--it is a BUCK...my "dream"-is to get a "great" solid black buck too use..thought i found one last year-looked good at 3weeks, went back to see him at weaning and he just didn't "jump out" at you, like-that will be a great buck (didn't have the body i was looking for ; (..) oh well..will keep my fingers crossed for a doe kid for you! Sweet talk the girls, maybe they will go in the daytime--cuz they love you!
