How horrible....It makes me glad for this forum and another one that I go to. Back when we were raising goats CL did not even exist. Also the forums educate me and gives me a support group.

I think I would have also gave them the link for here..Maybe it is not too late for them to learn.

Did they tell you they bought the animals from breeders? They could have started their herd for aution animals, not knowing any different. I almost did that myself in the beginning.

Kudos to you for offering to give them the information! Your help will save them future heartache. Hopefully, they will pass on that information to the vet! At least the vet will know that animals coming from Farm X are sick.

As an aside, I wouldn't buy their boar potbelly.....if they don't know what's going on with their goats, their health on their pigs may not be better. The possibility of CL transferring on the pig's feet, soil, your trailer...too much risk. Ounce of prevention, and all that....I would hold out for another boar.

Cheers!

Katherine

How sad, don't you just HATE finding things like that? They just sound ignorant, but if they would study stuff, they could easily learn and help solve their problems.

Good for you for trying to educate them. I'd also pass on the pig, who knows what it may carry.

It sounds like what they are lacking is information. They might appreciate a worming and vaccination schedule and some diet tips. The animals probably would too.

I can track down who exactly it is, but what good will that do? They know they have health issues with the goats, but choose to breed+sell anyway. They have been selling in the local classifieds for years! I advised the family not to purchase from them again.
In that case, that really does stink. :1pig:

Unfortunately goatmarm I see this time and time again. We get phone calls on a regular basis from folks who unknowingly purchase goats from "breeders" like this... thinking they are getting quality when they are just getting taken.

They can't figure out why their goats don't thrive or worse yet die a month or so after purchase.
