Gentle iodine

Gentle iodine?? Quick question, what is the difference between gentle or 7% iodine...Bottom line is gentle as effective for dipping the newborn cords? Thanks to all the illegal chemists in my area, 7% is unavailable. Last year I used gentle and never had a problem. How important is it to use strictly 7%?? Granted I realize that I can order it, but is it necessary? As always thanks for your input....

Folks in the midwest try to hang in there...your weather sounds brutal!!!

I believe that gentle iodine is diluted with rubbing alcohol. The reason we use 7% is for it's caustic nature. It dries the feet and cord quickly, tamed has less iodine in it, hence less caustic, less drying. Of course you don't have to use it, I simply order mine from Sharon or Jeffers. I can't afford to pick much of anything like that up locally, when you figure out the difference you are paying retail it's a significant raise in the cost. Pre-internet I still ordered from the jeffers catalogs. Vicki
