I think Cherry is starting......KID PICTURES

I hope Miracle gave her ideas, Christie!! She is waddling around with her tail way higher than usual and she keeps shifting her feet. Her udder is twice the size it was this morning and its definiately colostrum. She is four in March and this will be her fourth kidding. So far she has had single/triplets/twins. I'm hoping for triplets as I have a buyer for a Boer bottle baby wether and I will only consider pulling a Boer kid if its a triplet or quad. Even then I usually allow them to raise all three...but since I have a buyer, I'll make an exception.

Cherry just a minute ago. Aren't we strange?? Posting pictures of goats butts!

Her ligaments are very soft, but not completely gone...but if I remember right, she never *totally* loses her ligaments.

Well, she is acting very odd and with this cold weather I want to be there for the birth *just in case*. So Audrey and I are off to spend the night in the old farmhouse in the valley. No heat and a couch with an uncomfortable hid-a-bed! Off to dare the arctic!

Audrey and I stuck it out down in the valley till 3:00 am. Cherry was still sitting in her corner chewing her cud so we packed up and headed back up here to the house. I can't sleep when I'm frozen solid! I just checked on her at 6:30 and still nothing going on...though she is obviously in labour, its just the earlier stages. Those babies are in there moving into position at the starting gate.

Yes, it was about the same here. Colder than I expected. Yesterday morning all was 6" or more of muddy slop. This morning everything is frozen solid. Frozen mud is better than mud!!

Your one tough cookie!!! Will she be the first to deliver this season? Got to be excited, although you have done the delivery thing over and over and over...Keep in touch.

Oh Emily! How exciting!

And I just looked at your web site for the first time. What a beautiful family!!! I always wanted a large family, but only have four children (so far ). It was such a treat to read about your human AND animal family. Thank you!

Cherry is starting to get a little more serious. She has to be one of the most entertaining does when she goes into labour. She runs from one end of the pasture to the other checking out all the *best* spots to kid. She emits little cries every now and then like she is trying to locate her kids. If other kids are already born to other does, she runs from one to another to another sniffing them and yelling because she is just sure one of them is HERS! Finally when she has her kids, she is an absolutely awesome mother. I just get such a kick out of watching her get ready. She has no other kids to check out this year as she will be the 1st doe. But she is doing the running and yelling bit already. Ha!

Yep, first one. Which is why I'm getting so impatient. I *hate* waiting on the first kids of the season. I want babies NOW. Once I get my Boer baby fix, I'll be set for when the dairy kids start coming.

SHE DID IT!! About five minutes before I got back down there the last check-up. I walked into the barn to see her cleaning the last of a set of triplets. Two doelings(one traditional, one with a touch of paint), and one buckling(paint). The traditional doeling is bigger than the other two and the 1stborn. The buckling was born second and the paint doeling third. They are adorable. She *would* have *two* doelings the one year I have sworn not to keep any kids!!!!

Here they are:

The youngest doeling is in the front, the older doeling on the left and the buckling on the right. This picture was taken after I cleaned up her mess and put down fresh straw, the others were taken before.

Christie....I think Junior is doing himself mighty proud this year! Two sets of triplets in two days.
