Update on Lackluster Doeling
Well, the poor girl acted brighter yesterday after worming her the night before. But this afternoon she was stretching out and wouldn't eat, which I read as tummy pain. She just didn't have much energy either. I hadn't yet treated her for coccidiosis as I didn't have any of the medication on hand.
So, off we went to the vet. She came out and listened to her - checked her temp. The upshot of all of this is that poor Sandy (the doeling) has a mild case of pneumonia (said her lungs sounded somewhat crackly.) The fecal showed no parasites at all, though the vet did point out that coccidia doesn't continually shed cysts. She recommended we NOT treat her at the moment as Sandy is very thin and run down.
She gave the doe banamine, Nuflor? (antibiotic), and CD antitoxin as she's had no vaccinations at all. (I was reluctant to do this since she isn't very strong) I am to give her another antibiotic shot on Sunday along with a B-complex shot (not fortified - I gave her one yesterday as well)
Tonight Sandy was showing some interest in her feed again! The vet feels that she had a heavy worm load (Sandy is still somewhat potbellied) and that worming her was a good idea but may have caused her to feel poorly tummy wise.
Keep your fingers crossed for this poor little girl. She's a sweet little thing, and we hope we can get her healthy again.
