Finally found some!

Yay, Coso gave me a number to a man in Missouri that had some bred does for sale. I had been looking for some for my papa and myself. It was a drive, over 100 miles for us. I didn't think papa would go, he didn't act like he cared to ride that far (he's like 78 and his joints hurt him some). But when we called this morning and told him we were going to go today and we showed up at his house (we had to use his truck because it had a camper to haul the goats) and he had gotten all dressed and was getting his boots on, wanted to go too. So we all loaded up and headed up to Missouri. We finallly got there and we ended up with 4 goats. We intended on getting one a piece, but decided to get buddies for them and he gave us a price break at four. So papa ended up with a real pretty red spotted nubian and a little black lamancha. The Nubian will be 2 in the spring, and the lamancha will be 1 in the spring. I got a pretty red nubian (real long pretty ears) that's a little bit wild and a cute little toggenburg. My nubian will also be 2 in the spring, and the toggenburg will be one. The toggenburg is the only one not bred. She is super friendly and seems to prefer my company over the other goat. She follows me around when I'm in there and calls when I leave. I trimmed her feet. I trimmed one of the nubians feet, but she was a little skiddish so I figured I didn't want to stress her anymore, the move is enough. Her feet weren't as bad anyway. The man I purchased them from had been down in the hospital from back surgery (and they gave him a staph infection), so he hadn't trimmed them in a while. The goats were all really nice looking and healthy. The red nubian especially seems to have a nice coat, shiny, like a copper penny. I will post pictures tomorrow.

Last summer was my first time with goats and they are great animals.

If you are new to them like I am I would suggest bookmarking some goat sites and maybe print off some info to have handy should one of your goats act "off" or especially when it comes time to kid.

This site is a great resource.

I was really happy to hear that you guys bought both the togg and the black lamancha. (Did you realize that Coso was the breeder of both those girls?) They are both such sweeties. (oh yeah, I'm the fat red-head that was sitting in their shop when you got there) I live next door (I too have nubians & jerseys) Everytime we'd be out on that side of the land, Little Bit (the togg) would cry and call, until one of us would go to the fence and give her some loving. Good luck, enjoy your girls.

Neato! You're on here too? After we left we realized we forgot to buy some raw milk. I wish I had some, I'd drink a glass right now.

Yea, I bet you were! Probably though "finally we'll get some peace around here!" <G>

I almost let her out so she could come with me as I did all the morning chores, but then I thought the nubian might be lonely. The togg has taken it all in stride, but the nubian doesn't care for the change. I don't blame her.

I went out this morning and the nubian was a bit cold. She was shivering some. I didn't know they get cold so easily, it was only down to like 20 degrees. The togg was fine, she has a bit thick coat. So I put my coat around the little nubian for a while and fed her. She is fine now, the sun's out. Why would she get cold? There was no wind or rain. Do people ever blanket goats like you would a horse? I'll make her a nice thicker bed of hay tonight anyway. It's not supposed to be as cold tonight as it was last night, just a bit below freezing.

Ok, I'll be back in a minute with pictures.

Here is the toggenburg. I had a hard time getting good pictures of her because she was on me the whole time LOL.

Coming to see me?

In case you are wondering, they are in an aviary. That's aviary netting on top and ducky nest boxes in the back (mandarins and wood ducks). I have them in there for now for because it's grown up some and I wanted them to eat down the blackberries. In a few days they will go down in their permanent home that is larger.

And yes, that's a destroyed swimming pool in there. The sun ate it.

Will the goats eat the swimming pool pieces? That could be deadly.

I don't think they would, but I removed it anyway. Should have done that months ago, I just never did.
