New kid on cold night (pic)

Here's our newest addition born yesterday afternoon. 9 1/2 lb. Baby boy out of my old Boer doe bred to Nubian buck. She had twins in the spring. Of course it got down to 16 degrees here last night and he got a little cold, so I brought him in and warmed him up and gave him a coat to wear. You'd think he would have a little respect and not pee on my carpet, but no! Caught him in the act!!! (But at least I know he can do it without getting his coat wet) I thought he looked so cute in his coat, I had to post a pic. I have a bunch of these coats as I sell them on eBay, so when he was cold, I figured I'd give it a try. Had used one on an older doeling this fall that had pneumonia, and it worked great.

Hey! Goat Coats!!! Perfect :-)

You can use a disposable diaper on baby boy goats - just put it on sideways...

cute

Fine looking boy. We have kept kids in the house before and we are alot further south than you. At one time we had a puppy and a goat in our little bathroom during a cold Feb. We would get the little doe out and let her dance and jump around for family and friends in the middle of the livingroom floor. She had a few accidents also. After a short time I would get up early and take them outside to potty. After only a few trips outside both seemed to know what they were there for. They would play and pee and then run to the door to go back inside where it was warm.

Is there a link where we can look at your coats on ebay?
Winters get extremely cold here, so we bred ours a bit late. This is our first season with goats, and one we bought in August threw a 12 lb. white alpine buckling last week. He was born on a very warm morning, but it is about 10 degrees right now! Hopefully when the rest are born around April 1 it will be warm.

Wow! 12 lbs is a BIG kid! He's adorable! You can see the coats at http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=170055850298 This one is an X Small. Just click on "view seller's other items" to see other colors and sizes. I usually have spring kids too, but this year, I had a tough time letting my buck go, and ended up keeping him too long. So I have another doe to kid here anytime. I hate having winter babies! With the Nubians, you best be there when they're born if it's really cold, or their ears will freeze so fast. It's so much easier in the spring, especially going out in the middle of the night to check on the does. BRRR!!

THANKS!!! I am bidding on a couple, one for him this winter and another so we have an extra in case we have some born during extra chilly weather in April. Your buckling is sweet. Too bad he peed on your carpet

We didn't even suspect his mama to be pg until nearly 2 weeks before she had him! She is a 4 yo doe who has always had twins. She must have gotten in with a buck about a month before we bought her. I thought she would have twins again, but instead she had this 12 pounder...
He is the first kid to be born here on our farm (well, goat kid that is...we have 10 of our own people kids) He is getting lots of love and attention. Next April we should have five more does kidding. :baby04:

At least you won't have to go out and break him loose from the ground... I hate it when I have a new kid that pees outside and I have to go out and do this in my bathrobe!
