Got my new alpine!

Meet my new Alpine doe, Dance! She's a 4 year old, and will be 5 in May. She was 400.00, and is ADGA registered and pregnant to a gorgeous buck, due in March. It will be her 5th freshening. She is HUGE compared to my other Alpine, and really makes my minis look like minis, lol. I got a great deal on her, the reason why I got her. They actually bought her dry and not pregnant for 400. I think she'll be my first show goat, actually... Only problem being that I have NO idea how to show a goat, lol. The lady I got her from said that she doesn't milk as much as would be desired, which is why she bred her to the buck that she did; Other than that she would be great for the show ring, and has been shown before. Anyway, here's some pics I snapped when I let her in with the rest of the girls :

And here's one that shows how little my minis are next to her: (the black and white sundgau is a 4 month old kid: )

And this is her and my 4 month old mini kid, Giselle :

Pretty girl who did you get her from? What are her bloodlines? My mom raises alpines. Did they say how she placed when she did show? I would show her but that's me..... I like to go. I just showed twice this year but still had a good time.... made it worth it! HAHA!!

Her Reg. name is Cozy-Hollow Int Riverdance

I want to show, but don't know how... Where can one learn? I want to start going and watching some ADGA shows. Sounds like fun, to me!!

I got her from Alpine Valley, though she is from Cozy-Hollow. They've got some NICE NICE NICE goats there. That's why I was so happy to get her. She's bred to Pearl Valley Golden Ace, and boy, is he a gorgeous boy. BIG. I think I'll have some very very very large kids out of them two.

Her pedigree : http://www.adgagenetics.org/DoeDetai...ber=A001228469

Does anyone know what the stuff below the pedigree means? LOL

Hit a goat show or two and watch. It's the best way to learn. Get brave and offer to show someone's goats - I often have 2 or 3 in the same class (or more with get of sire classes) and I'm pushing goats on anyone who can stand "here, take this goat out for me!". There really isn't much to it. Just looking at her from the pictures, I like her depth of body, she's a little short in length though, nice legs and she's up on her pasterns. Without being able to see her udder though, I can't tell how well she'd show. She's been on milk test and averaged 1975 lbs, not incredible, but respectable. She's had two linear appraisals. Everything scored in blue and right of center is above average, everything to the left of center and scored in the red is below. Some of her scores are quite high, good mammary scores. She should show well. As a 4 yr old, this should be her "prime" year for her udder. Have fun with her!

MyGoats, try calling your local Extension office and join 4-H. They can teach you a lot about the care, feeding, milking, and showing of goats. Pretty much can learn everything in a 4-H club about yer goats.

Here is what I found on the Cozy Hollow website
Here is the info on her sire and he was really pretty! Nice big guy that looked nice and correct. I'll see if I can help any........

This is her dam and she has some really nice appraisal scores!! That's really good.... I've heard it's really great to get 90 or above (never done the appraisal myself) and is a permanent grand champion. Her kids are selling for $600 each and so I think you got a good one there. Takin into consideration she is bred that's really great. I'll see what I can find on the buck and post what I can!

This doe is a 2*M, as well. Forgot to add that. They said there's two reason she sold so cheap 1. Because she doesn't have her GCH yet and 2. Because Lloyd Allen is going through Chemo and they really need the $$. So I really did get a steal on this doe, an amazing price.

I'm going to have to email and ask about prior shows and stuff. I'm going to try to find the Cozy Hollow website, now, lol.

Maybe I will finally join 4-h. It will at least teach me how to show my doe. I'm mostly terrified of what kinds of diseases I"ll come in contact with... LOL

There ya go about the cozy website!

I also like the bucks dam! She is a permanent GCH and a really nice looking doe. Her scores were really something. I think that if you are wanting to show then I'd keep her doe kids if she has any!!
http://www.angelfire.com/co3/pearlva...es/aroura.html That is the link to the buck she's bred to's dam. Nice looking goat if you ask me!!

You live in Michigan, have you heard of or met a Lisa Talsma? She bought a whole bunch of goats from me. At first I thought maybe this was one of them, type is similar to my Junebug. Have fun with your new doe!

No, I haven't heard of her... I'm just now getting into alpines... I really like them from what I've seen!

We'll see about keeping some doe kids... If not this year, then both her and my other alpine doe will be bred back to the same buck as This doe, whom I've named Dance, is bred to. The reason I'm not sure if I can keep any doe kids, is because I told my dad that I'd be able to pay him back for her after she kids, with kid sales... Maybe he'll take some then and some later, though, I'd really love to keep a doeling out of her.

Oh, and anyone know where I can go to learn how to show a goat? I think maybe I will join 4-H finally...

Thanks for all the kind words on her, guys.

Hey, I remember hearing on this forum that Alpines were notorious ear biters? Is this true? Heidi, my other alpine, has been trying lately to bite the other goat's ears!

What? Didn't you get the memo? Alpines are just, well, notorious. Jumpers. Biters. Lovers! Ha ha. I greatly prefer my lamanchas quiet ways, but my alpine, Molly, bless her heart, always keeps us guessing. She only bites nubians. Ear envy? Here she is, 10 minutes before callbacks (with my daughter) - she took Supreme Champion. She's 6. And a royal PITA. She's due Wednesday. Did I mention jumper? She jumped in with my lamancha buck.
