HELP! It's not Diarhea! She's in labor!

She has no bag, she's not dilated, but she's been in labor since last night, she's about 8 years old, boer. How do I get her to dilate, is there any medicine to give her? I'm going to go and look right now, but I need help bad.
BTW, I forgot to tell you, the discharge she's having doesn't look right, kind of an orange/red, so I'm going to assume that the baby is dead. How do I get it out when she's not dilated, ? PLEASE help.

I dont think there is a drug to make her dialate. If she doesnt dialate you will have to get her to a vet for a c-section. How is she now?

Pushing. We don't have a goat vet around us, the only ones are small animal vets.

My dad did, he could barely get two fingers in, he felt what he thinks is the amunatic(sp) sac, and he said it's not burst, but I don't know if he could really tell, last time I went in a goat I could barely tell what was what.

Small vets can do c sections on goats....it of course would depend on the vet. I use to work for a small animal vet and they did goats. How long has she been actually pushing hard? I know I had a doe that was in labor most of the day and then had the kids that night. She would push some all day, but not hard pushes.

My mom said that she hasn't been pushing hard, just for a long time, since last night. Do you think that she'll dilate later then, when she's ready?

i guess your hands are smaller than the hands from your dad. so wash up very good and go in. close your eyes and try to find out what you can feel and don't panic.
i think you really should look for a vet now. i don't believe there is no vet in your area. you might have to drive a little bit but i'm sure there is one.

a goat is pushing a coupple of times and the kids are born. if this doe pushed since last night she has used all her energy and will most likely die.
no vet? i would shot her now. don't let her suffer.

I would give her some time. What you dont want is for her to push hard for more than 30 mins - 1 hr. That would mean she would be having problems getting the babies out or fully dialating. If you see blood then you will need to feel and see if she is dialating more. Let us know how she does. I take it you were not aware she was bred? Some dont bag up till they have the babies.

No, we thought she was done for good, she was still in with the buck, he needed company, and he's not happy if he doesn't have her, we thought that even if she did get pregnant it would be fine, figured we'd be there to help her when the signs came, problem is I was hoping for a week notice from her bagging up, and she didn't. She didn't look pregnant at all.

A small animal vet could still help you! I would try and get her into one -- I would bet if you showed up on their doorstep, they wouldn't turn you away. A shot of lutalyse will help her to dialate, and they could probably try to manipulate the kids out.

Aren't there any other goat breeders in your area you could call on for help?

If you are strictly on your own here, then wash up and put your hand in -- a few fingers aren't going to tell you anything. Slide your hand in -- I've been in does past my elbow. You should be able to feel the cervix -- the opening, and if there is a kid starting through, then either a body part, or the bag. If the cervix is really not dilated, then you can wiggle your fingertips in and start to massage and stretch it manually. It will stretch out! You very well may have a situation where the kid is positioned badly and cannot come out on its own. You may just need to reposition it, either by straightening out legs or turning the body.

Good luck, let us know what happens.

Tracy

Thanks guys, but my mom WON'T hold her, she said she would feel sorry for Queenie if she started screaming, and she would let her go, no big deal though, I knew she wouldn't, she HATES it when the goats have problems kidding. I just have to wait for my dad to come home, should be really soon. Bye.

Goat freak, I have gone into does that just stood still. If she has been in labor that long, I am sure she really won't move around much. I would beg your mom to help you. I would much rather hear a goat scream then see a dead one. Good Luck. I am sending you hugs and prayers your way.

I had a goat that labored long last year (or was it the year before). All was eventually fine. My guess would be that she has a kid in an undeliverable position.

Calcium helps with dilation. I inject megadoses, very, very slowly.
