Taste Great

Well we had a wither butcherd and picked him last week.
Now this is our first goat meat.
Every one in the house likes it
he was on the older side 18 monthes so he is a bit tough but we wound up with enough meat to feed this family of 6 for atleast 2 weeks
we will do the next on at a younger age

I've never eaten goat meat. How did you cook it? Can you compare it to other meat?

My parents always raised goats - as pets. I'm thinking of getting a few when we can - for milk and I'm wondering whether we should consider them for meat. But I've never eaten it.

If you want tender meat it needs to be aged. I do a lot of it in coolers for about a week and it makes a world of difference. Small cuts can be done in a refrigerator. Just keep temps around 40 degrees

Cook it slowly with plenty of moisture and its delicious. It has no marbling like beef, so you need to cook it slowly to keep it from drying out and becoming tough. You can use it in any recipe that calls for beef.
If I was going to compare it to another meat, I would say its like a rich beef. I think its better than lamb by far.

We never age ours and its tender. Its simply personal preference. We have no room to age it so we don't. Goat doesn't need aged like beef was the concensus when I asked the pros.

Somehow, once the ainmal has a name, it's a pet. I don.t eat pets. I think I would throw up. If someone else raises it and butchers it, I can eat it. Weird huh.
