Brush Goats

Anyone know where to find brush goats? I am in SE Kansas and we have been looking for goats for the brush, but goat prices around here are outragous (at least to me), everyone is saying bc everyone is buying them for meat... I remember buying goats for 20$ 8 years ago, and now everyone is asking at least $150 +.

Anyone have any ideas?

Are you looking to buy wethers or breeding stock brush goats?? If wethers, I could set you up in early 2007 with almost as many as you'd want......They would be $15 if you took them at a week old, if they are weaned, they will be at least $40-$50 which is still under meat price. Prices have gone up, you won't find many grown goats for $20 now unless your buying the auction barns worst stock. But you ought to be able to find good brush goats for well under $150....even does.

I think that we would probly only want a couple of the bucks,(i've heard they are terribly stinky, i've only had a doe ) and 4-6 does maybe more of each... not sure how many goats are needed to keep a certain area beat down. A goat an acre?

More like 4-5 goats an acre, more or less depending on the type of growth and the rainfall in each individual year.

Goats are the greatest when it comes to clearing brush. Ours did in a few months what would have taken us years plus hiring a crew to do by hand.

Brush goat prices around here are getting kinda steep to. I'll let my unregistared bucks go for about twenty-five each if you get them before they're a month old and I haven't had to hand raise them. Hand raised means more money, depending on how long I've had to feed the little darling. Does are going for fifty each before they're a month old, and if not hand raised. Afterward, well, depends on what they look like and if they're registarable.

If you are going to use goats as brush clearers, please make sure they have been disbudded. You would be amazed at what a goat can get their heads stuck in. Believe me, it saves a lot of time and trouble.
