Sad day for me too

I lost one of my little Nigerian does this morning.

Ivy took a beating from the herd queen about three weeks ago, so she'd been moved to another pen with gentle goats. I had a couple of bad days with her, but managed to bring her round with electrolytes and probios. She'd been fine the last week, eating with great enthusiasm (like a normal goat) but last night she was looking dazed. I moved her off into the corner where is was quiet, and this morning she was gone. I wonder if she had a weakened spot, and maybe she got jostled and it ruptured.

She was a sweet little goat. At least I still have her twin doelings.

So sorry. I'm wondering if she might have had internal injuries and began to recover but too bad to overcome?

I am so sorry to hear that. Is the queen doe always like that to the others also? One of my 4Hers had a doe that killed another goat also. They ended up selling her. Prayers going out to you. She is watching over the rest of the herd from above.

Yes, the herd queen (of the Nigerians) is aggressive to others, but they're all big enough to take it. Ivy was a very petite doe, and quite submissive. This happened just after I pulled her kids to wean them, so I wonder if that took her down a notch in the hierarchy.

Anyway, once Bronwyn has her kids, she'll be up for sale.

My thought as well - probably. I've just buried her (three feet down in wet clay - not pleasant) so I guess I'll never know.

She'll live on in her kids - I've got two nice little doelings, Sadie and Sukie. Sadie, unfortunately, is not breedable because of an umbilical hernia, but Sukie is.

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. It is never easy to lose one. I know it is heartbreaking. If that doe is that rough, I'd probably want to sell her too so I don't blame you. Sorry you had to bury her...that was tough, I'm sure. Poor little thing. You did all you could do.
