just needed to say
I just had to voice my feelings about the members of this forum. Usually people only take the time to voice complaints, never the good things. I work in the regional trauma center for my area and we see good people but we also see the worst of the worst. We are constantly reminded of how society has turned into selfish, money hungry, what can you do for me people. I wanted each of you to know that it is refreshing to know that people like yourselves still exist. You help others for the simple enjoyment of helping. Alot of you have scriptures and spiritual sayings in your signatures and routinely openly tell each other that you will pray for each other. Starting our small but loved herd of pygmies has brought my entire family closer than we have ever been before. I actually have a twelve year old daughter who would rather sit outside with her old man and the goats than watch TV. I have each of you to thank for giving me the knowledge to do this. I won't turn this into a sob story, but I have had some recent changes in my life that have affected me deeply and I cant help but be thankful for the blessings I have. Strangely enough, when I start to think of all of these blessings, my goats and this website continue to come to mind. For each of you who have answered a question for me or those who have just given me their opinion, Thank You from the bottom of my heart. It is good to know people like you are here, all I have to do is sit at my computer. If any of you are ever in S. Louisiana, let me know. I owe you a dinner and a tour of my little farm. Again, Thank You

You are too sweet. I know I and I think many people on here feel the same. There are so many good-hearted and caring people on here, just like you! You are so right. I can relate to the TV thing. I love having an outlet and a reason to NOT sit in the house. I hope you are OK with whatever you are going through. I hate to hear of people going through hard times. I know it happens a lot though. You take care and thank you for posting such as nice message. Blessings to you....

I think goats and other pets bring out the best in people. They have been a healing force in my life. You really can't get too hung up on self when you have critters who need your care. I work in a retail store and I know what you mean when you speak of a self centered, money hungry society. I like my job, but am always glad to get home to my furry family. If you're into praying for others, my friend's dog, Demi was just diagnosed with congestive heart failure. The vet prescribed meds for her. This dog is so good with baby goats. She licks and cuddles chilled orphan newborns and helps them to make it. I'm hoping and praying that the meds and prayers will help Demi make it.

Goat folks are nice folks.
And this forum here is as friendly as going out back and hanging out with the herd.

They sure do - I picked up one of my barn kittens at the vet the other night, then went to the chiropractor. Took him in with me (I don't like to leave animals in the car - he was shaking a bit too, with aftereffects of anesthesia) and when I was scheduling my next appt, I put his carrier on the table. Another patient came in and started talking away to the kitten. At my next appt, the technician said that the patient never spoke to anyone - they were all shocked at him talking to the cat! I told them that they needed an office cat. This morning, I took one of my Nigerian Dwarf kids in to visit them. She was good, and they all thought she was cute.
ETA - I appreciate this forum too! It's great to ask advice, bounce ideas off of people, ask questions, share brags and sorrows, and just general support and conversation. If you talk goats to the average person, their eyes kind of glaze over . . .

murphyjamie, what a wonderful post. We are all very fortunate to have found this forum and each other. Not only do our goats benefit from it, but we do to. Thanks for posting....Diane

I wholeheartedly agree......nice to know, that us "weird" goat folks have a place to hang out and come together on the forum to share, ask questions, etc.
(for example; we bought our place a year and a half ago, and it came with a gorgeous horse barn, which we have been slowly converting to a goat barn...(making heavy-duty gates with decent locks, because nimble goat lips can open just about anything... instead of heavy-slidey solid horse stall doors... re-doing fence...etc., because goats are just so danged talented at figuring out ways to escape.. lol...
Anyway, hubby recently met some horse people who live about a mile up the road...and the guy talked about what a wonderful horse barn we have...and asked if we had horses.....(I wouldn't mind having one or two...)
well, hubby proceeded to tell him that we do not have horses, but are raising goats...and converting the barn for goats......well, the SECOND they guy heard the word GOATS.... his eyes completely glazed over! LOLOL!!!! He was no longer interested... we are just lowly goat-people, I guess, but we LOVE it! lol!
Yeah... I love to be able to come here and read what other goat-folks experiences are, or cute little stories, as well as for occasional help...etc...
THANKS folks!

I am in Convent. That is between New Orleans and Baton Rouge. If you are familiar, it is just outside of Gonzales.

I'm also thankful for finding this forum. It's nice to "visit" with others who speak the same language--country living. I'm not that far away from Convent as the crow flies, but it's a squiggley route by land. I live between Albany and Holden, Louisiana.
