stud fee prices?

What's reasonable to pay for a goat stud fee? I have a Saanen doe I would like to breed and the vet tech at my vets has a young Saanen buck. She doesn't know what to charge and I don't either. My doe is registered but I don't have the papers on her. I can get them for another $100. I don't know if that makes a difference or not.
Thanks
Cara

We paid $35 for stud fee (I 'think' per doe), on an unproven registered buck with champion and grand champion lines. I believe it was $45 for a proven buck (from the same herd). Plus $1.00 a day a doe which basically paid for their feed. We charge about $20 - $30 on our bucks (unregistered, but from the same line as the original bucks), plus the $1.00 a day a doe. These are nubians if that makes a difference?

I've used 4 bucks from 4 different breeders. All bucks were from solid GCH & *M parents with linear and milk records on parents and grandparents. I was charged $20 per breeding by all 4 breeders.
The cost of semen is a good way to estimate value of a service. Most runs $10-$50 a straw. Boers can be MUCH higher, some Nigerians are pricey too.

stud fee

I usually charge $20 to $25 dollars to use my buck. I believe that if possible that I would get my doe registered even if $100 sounds a bit steep. If you are a member of ADGA I think that it only costs about $10 for does, but more for bucks. By having her registered, then you will be able to get more money for her kids. Most of the time I feel that by being registered, that they are taken better care of also.

The old rule of thumb used to be 10-15% of the buck cost or value. I usually got 20 or 25, but in my area a lot of the people thought $125 was about as high as a real good registered goat should bring. A bit of advise. Find the best registered buck you can afford. Check the bloodlines. You always try to breed to try to improve your goats. The buck provides half the genes so choose wisely.

I usually charge $25 if they are in 4H and $50 if they aren't. That is per doe. I also charge a $5 fee per week per doe for boarding and keep for 2 heat cycles. I also require that the does have proof of being CAE neg and have a clean bill of health before I will accept them. Good luck!

stud fee

We used to charge $25 which is fair for a homestead goat. Never had folks who returned though. We live in the boonies where that is a lot to breed a goat. They ended up using a boer instead.

I stopped by the barn and asked our buck, "Blackjack" how much to charge. He said cash is a ripoff and he would do it for a graham cracker, and sometimes he would have a buy one get one free special.
