Worming goats

How long does it take for an anemic goat to recover after being wormed. I recently wormed all of my nursing does and their kids because they failed the eye colour test. Two of the kids were looking week. Thats one of the reasons I checked them. The kids are looking a little better, but still not up to par.

Depending on how bad the anemia was, it can take quite a while. They really should get some type of iron supplement for a week or two if the anemia was very bad at all. I use Red Cell, but their are other types as well. I aquired an extremely poor Lamancha doe from a friend about a month back. Her coat was bad, eyelids were stark white and she had a bottle jaw pouch under her chin. Two wormings and 1/4 bottle of Red Cell later, she is vastly improved, (pink lids, no bottle jaw and her hair coat is starting to grow in dark again)but still paler than I like. It is simply going to take time to get her back up to par.

Good for you to get right on their wormings!
If they were mine, I would worm again in 20 days to get the sub-adults that the wormer didn't kill, they will turn into adults that can put your worm load right back up there in no time...we worm twice on new goats, to start fresh with a low load...
Also, your feed store should have Vitamin B Complex, or Super B ( more Thiamine) or Fortified Vitamin B - any of them, great anytime they are a little "off"
