Question Cydectin?

I know Cydectin is not recommended for use with pregnant does BUT mine have only had one dose. I just adapted anew worm protocol from reading what TexasCountryWoman does with her goats. Before that I had switched from herbl wormer to Valbazine. They really HAD to have it every 21 days or they would get scours and just seem to have a worm load.

So I gave the Cydectin to them on the day they were bred 7/19 I wont know until around the 8/9 if they have settled. That is when they should get their next dose of Cydectin. Should I go ahead and give it to them? Should I give them Ivermectin? I am seeing some clumpy poo so I think they need something.

I wouldn't give it to them without running a fecal and seeing if they REALLY need it. I would be worried about giving any wormer so early in pregnancy. Later on, I would give Cydectin if a fecal or other signs showed they needed it. But I would try to wait until their 3 or 4 months bred.

There are a lot of reasons for clumpy poo. I wouldn't assume worms every time, especially if it's happening a lot. Now maybe with the herbal, it's more likley to have been worms every time. Even with the Valbazen. But Cydectin is pretty stout stuff and should be keeping the parasite level low for a few months. If it's not, you need to look at other issues. Are they getting a good mineral? Do they need copper?

The clumpy poo is an on and off sort of thing which made me think worms, especially since it timed out to be 21 days or so after their last round of Valbazine. I guess I was thinking that, this being the first round of Cydectin, there would be a hatching and they would need another to break the life cycle of the worms.

I tried them on the Maxi Min Caprine mineral after reading about it in the Dairy Goat Journal. It seemed great at first but now I am seeing bald tail tips again (right before fair too ) I am almost out and plan to try Sweetlix meatmaker since so many people really seem to like it.

I have seen the blue copper sulfate at the feed store but I don’t know how to (or even if I should) give it to them.
